Hi there, I'm 15 in grade 10, I was born in Thailand and live in Canada and i carry Thai/Can Citizenship. I want to be a Figter Pilot and I'm not too sure whitch Airforce i should join and i would also like to know how hard is it to be a Fighter Pilot, like what I need to do and stuff.

BTW I'm in Royal Canadian Air Cadets.(If that help with anything)

Note: Sorry about my English. I moved to Canada four years ago (Speak no English) and I promise myself that I will Improve. Embarassed

Well Nova, thats a good question; which nationality do you have more loyalty towards? Let's put it this way, always think worste case scenario. If you live in Canada and they declare war on Thailand are you more than willing to bomb the streets and cities you grew up in if you are asked to?

Or if you join the Thai AF are you more than willing to bomb the factories and complexes your friends from HS might be working in?

Use that to make your decision. But dont make your judgement solely on "well this country has this air plane but its harder to be a pilot blah blah blah". That stuff is garbage. Be a warrior first and foremost and have the attitude and the integrity to choose a set of morals and stick with them. Then concentrate on "well this is the job I would like to do and this is what I would like to do it in." Flying any fighter air frame is an honor weather it be a CF-18 or a F-16/F-5. But joining an AF solely because they have a certain AF or it is easier to be a fighter pilot means your morales and loyalty can be bought.

As for what to do to become one. I cant speak for the Canadians or the Thais but I can say this; good grades, great phyisical fitness and a well rounded set of hobbies/skills/community service usually never hurts anyone get any job they want in any military.

TenguNoHi

Thanks for the reply. You ask me "which nationality do you have more loyalty towards?" well, I'd rather fight for that place i was born in. And thanks for bringing that up because I was thinking about that a while ago and I was thinking that that Thais AF don't really send Fighter Jets to fight anybody, so i guess its safer with the Thais but I will do the job if anyone is threaten my homeland.

For the pilot requirement. I think I pretty much got every thing that you just named.

Oh and one more questions.

Do you know any Thais pilot here or anywhere? because I need to ask him lots of questions so I could prepare.

Ayubi: yes, that helps alot lol. I've never knew that before, thank you for bringing it up. (I don't take French Class)

Thanks man. Also like you said above that thai AF does'nt send it's fighters alot to fight. Well you see, the canadian air force too does'nt send fighters to fight. I don't know why they have fighters in the first place since they don't fight and don't really have any enemies. But nonetheless, it's your choice.

If I were you, I'll go with the Canadian AF. Better chance since you already started with the Canadian Air Cadet.
Anyway, regarding joining the RTAF, let's ask your questions here,

Lots of active gurus there.
I assume you can still understand Thai but if you can't, just type english and I'll help you on translating that.

I do have to note that the Canadians do deploy sometimes. They (F-18s) were part of the NATO air forces operating over the skies of Kosovo during Allied Force. So, they do occasionally see combat, at least air to mud, if called upon. And, this wasn't a total cake walk of an operation as the US lost both an F-117 and an F-16 during this operation...

As to whom you should fight for, I definitely agree that it should be for whichever country you are loyal to. That is the first and foremost thing that anyone joining any military should look at. If you aren't 100% committed to that unit, it may cost lives in combat if you hesitate, your own among them. There are many other reasons to add to this argument, but that is usually the one that will affect a high school student the most (knowing that your friends, co-workers, and "drinking buddies" might die because you weren't sure of what to do.)

Anyway, welcome to the forums here, and good luck with your future! Study hard, work hard towards your goals, and your dreams can carry you far.

Thanks for the link and info, I still do speak Thai, and since you said you can translate my english into Thai, I was wondering. Are you Thai? Very Happy

You said that I should join RCAF, but I can't because don't you need to speak French to joing it? But I'd rather join the RTAF if I can because Thailand is poorer country than Canada and If Canada is under attack(probably won't) they will likely get support from NATO and I want to defend my home country(Thailand).

Every one else thank you for the reply they're all helpful and i will stay intouch for more advice.

unless you want to fly f-18, I would go back to thailand, if you get a good education, I think
you have a better chance to fly in thailand.
