Hey all,
Just curious, thought there may have been a post on this topic before I haven't seen it.
What was your favorite base? I personally been to Shaw, Osan, Nellis, Tyndall, Eilson, SHeppard and lackland of course. My own fav had to be Shaw AFB. Loved being there and something nice about the cool autumns there on base. Nice layout and the dorms had their own personality including the condemned ones we got stuck in at first lol. All the bases were nice I been to but SHaw stood out in my mind and I've always missed it. Was assigned to the 17th Hooters then, which then became the 77FS Gamblers.
Cheers all! |

My two bases were MacDill in Tampa (before the 56th moved out to Luke) and Torrejon just outside of Madrid (now closed). I have no room to complain...

If I could a couple more overseas bases it would be Aviano, Italy (back in the late seventies, when it was still considered a sleepy hollow - WTD site) and Zaragosa, Spain.
Touring Spain and Italy (back then) was amazing, mainly friendly folks, great booze, bullfights, skiing and the open roads in a sports car....nothing but good times to be had. |

| True..that was a great location too, enjoyed my TDY's there as well. You know, when you start thinking about it, there used to be so many great locations all over Europe and Asia...now it is time to just be grateful for the experiences I guess. |

| A wise man once said (actually it was me who said it) that the two best bases in the Air Force was the one you just left and the one you are going to. |

| Macdill back when it was F-16's. Of course Torrejon. Aviano back in the late 80's. Meathook it was still a sleepy little TDY base then but boy was it great. My vote for favorite TDY base is Bergen Norway. |

Hey Scott, were you following me around? I never made it to Norway (although I almost did with Lockheed) but you're right, Aviano was great. Little tiny TDY base then, staying at the Moderno in Pordenone, great local people, great food...

| They always put the crewchiefs in either the Doimo or the Oliva right in Aviano. All the Specialist and others stayed in Pordenone. I remember a few choice restaurants, (Hole in the wall) Awesome veal. That was a great base back in its smaller days. Another good TDY base was Camri AB outside of Milan italy. Went there for Tiger meet (ample train). |
