Seeing as not many people seem to post in this section i thought i would start up a build thread.
I will be making (starting next week) the Hasegawa 1/48 F-16A 'Tiger Meet 2003'
But as we all know the F-16A's used by the 31 squadron have gone through the MLU so there are a few modifications i need to do to this kit to get it right.
For this kit i will be using the Eduard 'Big Ed' aftermarket set and Shawn Hull's CCIP upgrade resin part to get it as true to life as possible (I do have the aries cockpit and wheel bays but i figured i would wast half the Eduard set if i use it on this model) I have also used a Quickboost seat.
As i am waiting for things to arrive in the post so i can get on with this i have been doing a few bits and bobs. Namely the seat, some wheel chocks, the pitot, making the sidewinders ind smokewinders and making the remove before flight safty caps for them.
the stripes where decals from an old Revell 1/72 Tornado ECR Tiger which i by luck kept when i threw the kit away a year back! |

Right, the main part of the cockpit is done. Just have a few little bits to do but cant untill i have put the CCIP upgrade part on...which i can do untill my Xacto saw comes.
i wish i could say i painted all those instruments and buttons but i didnt. the p/e set was pre-coloured. I had to re-paint some of them to change the colour from Light Ghost Grey to a near black.
Yes, this cockpit is wrong. the plane is a MLU but the instrument pannel is not. but hey...its still looks good!
Also done the Aires exhaust. I was going to be using Alclad II Jet Exhaust for this but i want to practice spraying it first so i will use it on another build.
also made the FOD Cover. i did this by wetting a tissue, covering it over. Covering in watered down PVA glue. Waited for that to dry and painted it. Because the paper absorbes some of the colour it also takes away the harshnes of the red.
enjoy... |

thanks for the kind comments.
have done most of the p/e on the model that i can so far.
right now it is stuck together needing a bit of filling and waiting for a cote of paint to dry.
here are some pics of some of the p/e detail, the intake , the nose wheelbay door and the HUD cover. |

| Is that HUD cover a decal or did you paint it? |

i made the actual cover out of wet tissue, waited for it to dry, coated it in watered down PVA glue (same process as MOD) painted it yello....and i would love to say i painted the stripes but i didnt lol. it is a decal from an old 1/72 Revel Tornado ECR Tiger. same as the stripes on the wheel chocks and pitot.
here is what the intake looks like now with the wheel bay in and done (apart from the wheel and the door and nav lights...photos tonight)
hope you like it so far. |

bin doing a bit more tonight.
have done the 370 gallon fuel tanks. i had to remove the CCIP update set as my filling job was crap so put the original back and will use p/e to make the antenna/bird slicers. got to spray the underside and do a few touch ups later.
here are some pics of the fuel tank and what the bird looks like at the moment. |

just a few pics here. thought i would get the lower stabalisers and the vertical stabaliser out the way. mainly did the vertical one as i knew the two large decals would be a pain, so i trimmed all the excess carrier film off and put them on over a cote of Johnsons, waited for them to dry, another cote of johnsons, then the belgium flag and registration no. followed by a final cote of johnsons.
i went to paint the underside last night and ran out of paint half way through....typical. so that will have to wait another week to get the paint in.
I will finish off the top side in the mean time. more pics later! |

| Looking good. Love that paint scheme. How are the decals for snuggling down ? Do you have to use setting solution? |

thanks.
no no setting solution needed. they are a bit flat at first but the cote of Johnsons/future make it sink into the pannel lines nicely (as you can see) |

ok..just come accross a problem.
the walkway decals that are with this kit are a drak greay (basically the exact same shade as the dark grey the bird is painted in!)
so the decals do not show up at all.
looking at pictures of the real plane, the walkway lines are actually a light grey/white.
dose anyone know wher i could get walkway decals for a has 1/48 F-16 in white?
a have about 6 sets of different decals for has F-16s but none are white |

She's getting along nicely rj!
I see you have a multitasking desk, both modelling and pc? Keep the keyboard and the superglue well apart then! This is a thing you can learn from other's mistakes! No need to make it yourselves
happy modelling |
