I recently started working for a civilian air shipping company, I work in the maintenance office and i see forms all day long. The system requres you to look at 3 different programs to complete jobs and check numbers. There has got to be an easier way to do this. I wish i had cams here. My question is, does anyone know of a program that works like cams does? can civilian operations use cams, (not connected to airforce cams of course), is it for sale to the civilian sector? Shocked

There are a number of commercial applications out there that do that. But for a big company it won't be cheap.

Do an internet search under "aircraft maintenance software".

The latest SAP R3/R4 software, we use it (very large company, world -wide ops`) , commercially available. Use it for maintenance, ordering parts, keeping track of parts, invoicing, deliveries, etc. A one shop system. Cool when it all works. Need a good systems person looking after it though.

My experience with SAP is that it's not very user friendly or intuitive. It is very powerful though.

Dead right about it not being intuitive! I am pretty good on the system now, it required an outside specialist to come in and train us up though. Once you have set things up on say, an order, it`s near impossible to make any changes. You have to resort to the telephone!

Sorry - I can't recommend - they all have strengths and weaknesses. You can contact a handful and see who else is using them and call them to see what they think of the product. Then contact the companies you are interested in and they will come out an do a free demo. Just realize they are sales people and will not tell you about weaknesses or total cost of ownership. Support costs can kill you too as well as upgrade costs. The feedback from the users will be your best bet in making a good choice.

Why the heck would anyone wish for CAMS? When it replaced CDS it was a nightmare. They did finally get a lot of the bugs out of it. We use a system called TRAX which is in use by about 58 airlines including ours, Jet Blue, some foreign ones, and other domestic carriers. Search Yahoo for TRAX and their website will appear
