| I'm a prior Marine and a power plants mech on the AV8. So my only thing is the mantance. Judging by what I've seen of the F-35 STOVL I'd rather work on the Harrier. And that's saying considering the many long nights I spent work for the "Ace of Slaves" in NC. The thrust fan and the rotating nozzle on the F-35 are going to be more trouble than there worth. You can talk about combat rolls all day long but it does you no good if the greace monkies like me can get it off the ground. |

I just don't see the F-35 doing the CAS mission, sorry. They tried to replace the A-10 with an F/A-16, it didn't work. Every pilot that I have talked to that flew both the A-10 and F-16 in cas missions said that at the speed of not getting hit you can't see sh*t, and right now, pilots are still responsible for what comes off of the wing, they liked the A-10 much better than the F-16... the idea of putting a 2000lb grenade in the hand of a grunt is a cool idea, but right now, it's not very easily implemented..
Elp seems to be an avid anti A-10 guy. I'm an avid pro A-10 guy.... |
