The latest news from "The State" (posted on October 5, 2006):
Quote:
Guard troops return from Japan
Some of the 300 South Carolina Air National Guard members who deployed to Japan returned Wednesday.
The first group back at McEntire Joint National Guard Base included eight of the 12 F-16 fighters that left Aug. 28 for Kadena Air Base at Okinawa, said spokesman Lt. Col. Les Carroll.
By Saturday, everyone should be back, Carroll added.
At Kadena, the South Carolinians participated in exercises with Air Force active-duty units.
The six-week deployment marked the first time that the Guard's 169th Fighter Wing had deployed since the opening months of the Iraq war in 2003.

The posted caption is related to an older and well-known picture of OIF´s main combat phase!
