You know its rather annoying that people have written off the Typhoon before it has even proven itself. The Typhoon has got such a bad press because of delays and budget over-runs, but thats not to say that it is not an excellent platform. The Typhoon has yet to show its capabilities to the world, until it does you cannot say its useless.
History has shown that there have been excellent planes that have been written off before they have flown. The DeHavilland Mosquito was considered by the Germans in WW2 to be a laughing stock, an aircraft so obsolete because it was built out of wood. It ended up becoming the most successful fighter-bomber of the war, performing every mission it did with huge success, and became a real thorn in the side of the Luftwaffe. The point of this story is that you can't write off an aircraft before it has been put in a REAL situation. |

| Meh, the Typhoon was originally intended to operate alongside the USAF's ATF over Europe against the Soviets. Its lack of stealth and AESA really limit capability. |

With all due respect its not that the Typhoon is not an excellant fighter! Just that technolgy has already passed it by. Just like the Me-262 did to the Mustang and Spitfire of 1944-45...........the F-22 and F-35 are doing today!

Surely, the US and the Typhoon Partners (i.e. UK, Spain, Italy, and Spain) are working on ways to operate Typhoons and Raptors in Air Superiority Missions. Clearly, the F-22's could operate in a Mini-AWACS Role guiding Typhoons in for the kill..............especially with only 183 Raptors available this will become paramount! |
