Today is the 30th anniversary of the first flight of the YF-16.
I can still remember reading my first article about this new machine when I was 10, and have been folowing the development of this amazing plane since.
All I want to know now is, who is organising the party tonight!
Anybody got some not before seen anniversary photos?

I remember back in the 70s riding a bus from NYC to Atlantic City. We had to detour for some reason and my mom pointed out the window of the bus as we passed an airport (musta been Atlantic City International.) A F-16 in the General Dynamics colors was zipping down the runway and yanked into a vertical take-off. I had never seen any plane do that before. Heck of a show!

If the USAF had it their way every time, we'd never have any great fighters like the F-16.
Do your homework, Tiger!

Happy Birthday! First flight pilot Phil Oestricher is still kicking and living in the Ft Worth TX area.
The game was in Houston, one of those "hole in the roof" type stadiums if I understand right. F-16s would only be visible for a very short time and probably only from certain seat sections inside the stadium. The "slower and lower" Apaches were most likely from Ft Hood, and have gotten a lot of press coverage with Iraq and all so they fit the venue better.
Instead we got Apaches??!!??
