To confuse all much more
I heard that the first AA-11 variant was R-73K and for export R-73E and next variant R-73L for export R-73EL.
Does anybody know if Iraq had these missiles in '91? |

There are different designations of the same variant of Russian (Soviet) missiles, as there are with their aircraft. But basically there was the first variant (A in the West, K in Russia) which had a downgraded export version called E, a more advanced version named M1, RDM1, L whatever and its export version EL (not downgraded) and finally the M2 or RDM2 which is the latest, comparable to Python 4 or AIM-9X which was developped specifically for India.
No, Iraq only had AA-8 (R-60M) as WWR AAM. |
