| I have to wear glasses, but I heard I can get a waiver after I get my eyes fixed. My problem though is that I'm colorblind. It's not serious, I can see real life colors just fine, but in some pictures and those dot tests I have the problems. Can I still fly if I'm colorblind? Or will they wash me out? |

| I'm sorry to tell you but being color-blind is a diffinite dissqualification for being a pilot moat of the warning or "normal" lights in the cockpit are eithr green or red or yellow....my brother had the same deal and they denied him.....laser eye surgery willl help your vision but not your color-blindness....sorry for the bad news man but that's the facts jack |

| [Link pending approval] what kind of test do they do for it? It's gotten better as I've gotten older so only those damned dot tests get me. |

Color vision is required, unaided vision is preferred.
If you want to assess your probability of passing take a look at this link for the eyesight requirements for a deck officer, if you can not pass these tests you will be hard pressed to pass the aviation test.

| the dot tests are administered at MEPS when you go to do your initial processing. If you can't pass the dot test I think all flight related jobs are going to be out of the question (I think).......you might start looking at some maintenance or admin career field as an officer or enlisted....I know what you feel like though, I got denied at the academy cause I didn't have the grades, even had congressional signatures and everything, but the enlisted side is a lot of fun too, just can't make as much money |

I've heard of guys getting signed up when they were desperate for [Link pending approval] not exactly the current situation. I'm still gonna try for it because I've read of a number of colorblind pilots, but it really bugs me down that I can't even work with planes being colorblind. Not fun.

I know this is somewhat lame to say, but never give up. Aim high (no pun intended) and you are bound to hit something good. It may not be a pilot slot, but I sure there are some other great jobs in the military/flying industry you can do. I have 20/40 vision and I still hang on to the hope of getting a slot one day - if not, I know I tried and had a chance. Probably the most important thing is HAVE A BACKUP PLAN. I am heading to ERAU (coming in with 4X credits) and doing ATC as a minor to Aeronautical Science if my eyes give out. If they do, I might just have to take a job paying 70+ k a year – darn.
P.S. You need a 3rd class medical to be ATC. |

I never give up ^^
how bad can my eye mistake be for a pilot job? I saw a documentation ( i hope its the right word) at the tv and there was a guy with glasses in the plan but i didn't heard how bad his eyes was.
When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it. I think Hery Ford was right with that |
