I know gas prices are bad these days, but I think I found some of the most expensive gas in the whole U.S. in Baker, California on my trip to March ARB to see the airshow there. It's about $2.99 here in Vegas, about $3.19 in Fontana, CA, and about $3.35 in San Diego.
Baker just bites and the pic speaks for itself ! |

This may make you feel a whole lot better Parrothead.
Try $6.50 to $7.00 per US Gal` in the UK......We also have the most expensive natural gas for household use in the WORLD.
That is why we have smaller capacity engines in our cars, 1.0 Ltr to 3.0 Ltr is most common. Even Diesel is now more expensive than petrol. A lot of people are converting to LPG. That is currently about $3 a gal. |

Yep first time I paid over 1 pound for Diesel yesterday at Tesco's. Cost me 100.9p per each litre I stuck in my Volvo V70.
As for LPG. Sounds great, but not enough stations to be filling up at yet. Been to some countries in Asia which seem to have the dual fuel as standard at each petrol station I went to.. UK is slowly catching on.. |

I thought that the high prices were here on Argentina, but I was mistaken... the price is high for the people who lives here, but for you it would be cheap.
If I go to USA or the UK I'll walk.. |

Guys,
Thanks for the replies ! I know these are low prices for Europe, but they were $.45 cheaper just a month ago. I paid $2.91 on Friday and it's up to $3.00 today ! Last year at this time, it was about $2.30 per gallon. Back in October of 2004 when I moved here, it was around $1.90 or so.
On top of all this, I have a 20 mile (32 kilometer) commute each way to and from work! Thankfully, I drive a little Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 4 cylinder with a stick shift - better milage from the 14.2 gallon (53.75 liter) tank!
I'm starting to consider riding my bicycle to work and back - and that's tough in the summer !!! |

The neat thing about diesel is that you just get more miles per gallon, unless you have a turbo-diesel...then it starts to hurt. Especially if you have a heavy right foot!
You also have to be very careful where you fill up.
I will never use unleaded at a place if looks suspiciously too cheap. The fuel will almost certainly not contain those additives that look after your engine. The cheapo fuel CAN cause you problems, depending on your engine. I don`t use Sainsbury`s petrol for that very reason.--Cheap and nasty.
I am seriously considering an LPG conversion. Like you said ASIF, I may wait until the pumps are more readily available. There would be nothing worse than wanting LPG, then rolling into a gas station without it. Dual fuel conversions are still expensive though...
Ryan, didn`t know fuel was cheaper in Argentina. Does Argentina produce her own oil???
I used to take my bike to work, about 15 miles. Sometimes I put my bike in my car and I ride home after work. The only problem with that is if the weather is crap the next day I have to use the bike!!! Arrrgh! Don`t do it so often now. |

This might make you all a bit jealous but I was just driving allong the other night when I saw a bunch of police cars down the road. I was wondering what was up and I came upon a gas station CRAMMED PACKED full of cars. This was at like 2am in the morning by the way. I'm thinking, what the heck? It's 2 am! Dont these people have jobs to be at tommorow!? And then I look at the sign, one day special, 79c a gallon, open 24 hours. Im thinking, HOLY BEJEEBERS! And I pulled in and filled up. No better feeling than filling your take off the E-line for less than $9.00!

1° It's cheap for the foreigners (who come from the USA, UK or other countries that use dolar or the Euro), since they benefit with the change
Example: 1 U$S = $3,03 (Argentine Pesos)
1 Euro = $3,77
2° Technically, Argentina does not produce her own oil, because the only national company (YPF = Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales) was sold in the 2001 to the spanish company Repsol (Now well-known as Repsol-YPF but their capitals are, in their majority, from Spain). In my opinion, it was a mistake (Although I do not have idea of the political and economic interests that urged the government to sell the company).
In addition, although the Patagonia has the 80% of the reserves of oil of the country, most of it are property of foreign companies. (Now that was a GREAT mistake)
I hope that this information helps

Ahh, got that Ryan, thank you Selling resources to foreign companies is one way of getting hard cash! They probably gave your country the net worth of your oil reserves or what they are worth in cash or credit. It takes years to get a return in cash terms from buried oil. This way Argentina got a cash/credit injection immediately.
Of course these foreign companies will make a lot more on top.... |

| It's hurricane season here in the Southeast. A lot of places are around $4.09, however, I don't complain, because I pay a lot more whenever I fill up a rental car in Germany. I know a lot Europeans must laugh at Americans who complain about gas prices. |
