I have read some very interesting news, SABCA - Belgium has received a 40 million dollar contract for updating the 21 remaining F-16's from Venezuela. The contract is named FALCON UPDATE and it is going to start this year (2004) and it will end in 2006.

So, if anyone knows when those beautifull VIPERS are coming to Charleroi, drop a message, so we can go out there and shoot some fine pictures of them. Very Happy

Good hunting,
from Nellis.

Me three!
And if you can get pics, all the better. IMO, the FAV Vipers are just the prettiest out there.

The contract with SABCA is for the Falcon UP program. The objective is not a true modernization or update. It's a rework of the full structure of the aircraft, that in effect extends the operational life from 6,000 to 8,000 hours.

The real update will occur at a later date, and by the looks of it it won't the the MLU, but the IAI ACE. This is probably necessary for political reaons as doing the MLU would require US Congress aproval, and Chavez has burnt that bridge.

Juan Sosa

Every F-16 that has passed through the MLU upgrade program has had the Falcon UP done to it. What the programinvolvs is pretty much open knoledge. As far as the ACE goes, that is the conclusion I reached from the purchases the FAV has made since the late 90's, and this has been confirmed by several persons that have an in with Grupo 16.

Juan

So what's the status of the birds? Have they been upgraded yet? Where are they now?
