Love us or hate us, we (Lieutenants) could all use a helping hand right about now.
Starting next monday (10 April) the Force Shaping Board will begin, and make its decisions on who gets to stay and who gets to go.
I'm just asking that you send a kind thought out to that Lt you know who has to deal with this thing. Regardless of if they know its you or not, just knowing that there is someone out there who hopes they make it through will be a tremendous thing.
And come May 10th, the result release date, if I make it, I'll buy beer for everyone who can come to me to get it. Or cokes if you're too young for the beer. |

I heard. Sorry 'bout that. We went through that in 1990 or so. For non-rated, low-mid level captains without a regular commission (if you say "what?" I'm gonna smack you ) , there was an 4/5 chance you'd get schwacked (supervisors were allowed to pick their stars). Saw some really good guys get the ax. I was fortunate to have a regular commission so I didn't sweat it, but there was serious tension in the air |

I know it's no time to joke but I saw a breifing about the force shaping once and at the beggining it looked like a serious briefing, starting with the Blue to Green program. Later it talked about the Blue to Gold program, Blue to Brown Program and Blue to Blue program which were McDonalds, UPS and Walmart respectivly.
Anyways, good luck to all the liuetenants out there who need to bear through this. I'm sure most of you will do fine.

Well, AmmoCapt, since you seem to be in the situation where you can potentially be cut, I wish you the best of luck on getting past the Force Shaping Board and will look forward to my Beer
I think I speak for everyone here saying we all wish you the best! |

How will this affect officer recruiting? I'm part of the bunch just trying to get IN right now, let alone be allowed to stay once I am in. If things get too foxtrotted up, I'm going Navy, or *gasp* Coast Guard.

TC, the way I hear it, not good. This year was the first year in a long while (if ever before) that it was MORE difficult to get a scholarship through the AFROTC program than to get accepted into the academy. Cadets from FT last year said that the FTOs were going around asking people to just go home because even though they were passing they were not outstanding and the AF had no need for their major. So who knows what will happen.

Thanks guys. I really apreciate it.
And while I personally will need every bit of luck I can get, there are other LTs out there who need your prayers far more than I do.
One of the guys here I know has a far worse chance of getting cut, is married and has two children. He is hoping that he gets to stay, but isn't taking any chances and has been actively searching for employment outside of the Air Force.
I'm starting to agree with the old saying that its better to be lucky than good. |

Yep, enlisted folks fell under the 1992 and on "Forced Drawdown", my wife had been in 12.5 years then, Tsgt (Line Number), her and over 300, 000.00 (enlisted) were told to leave. She never got to retire and she wanted too, worked hard at her job and school, training to get promoted.
She just back from the Gulf War (#1) after six months there and we had just PCS'ed to Lakenheath, that was a real nice "how do you do" and out she was, just like that, July 92, it was all over but the crying and she did do that too.
No justice, I do feel for you but not too much (sorry) screwed up our family plan too, such is life, no one is safe anymore but they will use you like a sponge (trust me on this one) but I still love the USAF, shame it has changed so damn much. |

| Oh Yea, it is still used shamefully (just not said as loud but understood)..damn shame, she would have been retired long ago instead of starting over |

I agree big time. I started a thread on this sometime back:
Company Grade Officer downsizing
We bring in all this bright talent and then say "sorry we fk'd up", is pretty bad. It sucks that a bunch of senior leaders couldn't figure out a PowerPoint briefing slide that they probably saw routinely. Hats off to everyone that has to eat this problem and good luck to those that lose out.
If it is any consolation, 30 generals will get the bad news soon too. |

Yep... shameful huh, the Cold War never looked so good to so many, Peace time sucks (sometimes). However, even in this time of terror attacks and fighting those attacks globally, the cuts continue, I think collectively the Air Force will bleed before they can breath again.
Damn politicians, don't know when to shut up, sit down and stop taking raises that we could use to defend our country and her troops better. |

Wow, I certainly didn't expect this when I started this thread.
Meathook, I totally understand what you mean about your wife. Thats not a nice thing to have happen.
While I agree with the ideas that were starting to be expressed here before MOD intervention, the point is, that there are bound to be some LTs who could really use a few kind thoughts really soon.
Force Shaping and total force reduction is here to stay. My SNCO went to a TOP three meeting yesterday, and passed on to me some notes from the Command Chief Conference, and it doesn't look too happy.
Back on topic, the list of who stays and who goes is currently under review by the Secretary of the Air Force, or so I am told. We might find out a little sooner than the 10th of May, but either way, its right around the corner.
Good luck to everyone else who has to face this.
As I said before, should I survive, beers are on me this friday at the Doolittle Raiders Room! |
