Guys, I have noticed a frustrating (albeit minor) "bug" in the forum software. Often times when I first visit the forum there will be orange "New Post" icons next to several different forums. I will work my way through them, reading all the threads with new posts. Occasionally though all of the orange icons turn back to blue before I have read all the posts. This includes the forum headers and the individual new posts within that forum. I'm not sure what is triggering the "mark all as read" flag for me, but I suspect it is after I reply to a single thread. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe P.W. #1 (Post Wh*re #1 - Habu Wink ) - have you seen this? I'll try to track my actions to see if I can determine exactly when this happens.

Thanks,

Greg

Yep, I had the same problem: everything becoming all blue before I read all the threads. I still don't know why either.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll look into it - if you can reproduce the problem, please let me know !

I replied to a post today and didn't have the problem. I do have the habit of submitting a post, seeing a typo and immediately editing that post (which I didn't do today) so I'll try to watch and see if the submit>edit trick cleans the slate.

Could you also try the following:

If you go to the main forum index, http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum.html , there's a link in the top-right corner that says "view posts since last visit". If you do have the problem with the disappearing icons, could you check that link and tell me if it comes up empty as well ?

thanks

Stefaan, I'll try that next time. I work my way top-to-bottom so this is the last unread post I read.

It did it to me again on this visit, all icons in all forums turned blue after I read the last new post in the Military Aircraft forum.

Stefaan, I just tried the "view posts since last visit" option and it displayed both replies I had made on this visit and one new post since I had been here. I'll try keep it in mind on my next visit.

Hmmm...the only thing I've seen with this is, that I'll relply to a thread in a certain forum, but when I go back to the overall view, I'll get an orange icon, even though I just came from there, and have ovbisouly already seen it, because I just posted in it. It even has me as the last person that posted, yet it's still orange, like I haven't seen it. I usually just 'mark all forums as read' at that time.

OK I've been trying to pay attention to when this happens, and as near as I can tell it only happens after I edit a post - usually a post I just made (& found a typo/correction) and edited that post w/o returning to the forum index. Never happens if I just read straight through all the new posts, haven't noticed it when I read & post (w/o editing), only when I edit a post I just made. And yes it seems to clear the "view all new posts since last visit" list. This bug could be pretty deep in the PNphpBB2 software.... Sad

Currently my workaround is to immediately open the "view all new posts since last visit" list in a new window, then continue my reading/posting until it f*&%s up, then refer back to the list in the new window to see what was new when I arrived.

OK definitely seems to be related to editing a new reply - I can repeat it now at will..... Sad

Habu's,

thanks for tracing this down. Looks like a bug in the forum software - I'll see if it has been posted already and otherwise I'll report it. If I find some time I'll go through the code myself and try to find it.

thanks again

stef

Grrrrr - I just had all my remaining unread posts set to read - w/o even replying to anything!!!! Evil or Very Mad

My current workaround (if I can remember to do it) is to open the "view all posts since your last visit" in a new window as soon as I visit the site. Then I leave that new window open for reference while I browse in the original window. What a PITA.... Evil or Very Mad

I know its not your guys fault - just venting... Crying or Very sad

Oh BTW if, once the icons all go to blue, I try the "view all posts since last visit" it returns with no new posts even if I have not read them all. It must be clearing that field too...

habu2,

It appears to be a known problem, but with no fix as of yet. I'm trying some things of my own, so let me know if you still get the problem (did some changes 2230GMT, Feb 4th). Seems to be cookie/session related.
