Especially when the ECS turbine shoots off and the engines get started you can feel the rumble of the -119s in your, uh, for lack of a better word, balls. However, because I've never launched a -22 before the crew chief didn't tell me that the ECS fires a high pitched whine
It's the APU (Auxillary Power Unit), not ECS. |

One thing to remember, noise is wasted energy not used for thrust. I just wish there was a way to convert this energy to thrust.

This alleged "desert paint scheme" F-22 is actually the aircraft in their primary coat undergoing their inital flight tests before painting and delivery. The primary coatt they're using at Marietta looks like it could be a desert camo if you don't get a detailed look or are far away.
In conclusion, the F-22 has it's normal grey scheme in operational units- there is no desert scheme. |

Correct. I just saw an F-22 fly out of Dobbins today with the primer scheme. Make no mistake, it's a loud plane. |

LOUD, you want LOUD. I agree with Olgo, the F-105 with water is about as loud as they get. I've crewed lots of birds in my days; B-52s taking-off with TEN engines running (8 of their own and two hounddog missiles), KC-135As with full water, and F-111s (As, Ds, Es, Fs and EFs), and they're No. 2 on my list of loudest aircraft. I can stand next to any fighter aircraft running its engine in full burner without flinching, but I can't stand next to a KC-135A running in full military with water augmentation. . . tears me up from the inside out!
So, you want loud? You'll have to go to the land down under to listen to a 'Vark take off. It'll rattle your teeth!
