An SEA camo-painted SLUF, armed to the teeth is ALWAYS a great pic!
Good looking jet chickenlegs! Is it at Buckley?

Yes it is. I was always amazed at what we put on those jets. Took alot of runway to get off but it did. Still think it should be flying!
Have a great day!

Radar bombs?
well, on the toss-ups from 3-4 miles away, we didn't get the 40 meters, we got like 100 meters. Still good enuf for a nuke, tho.
Try to find an old copy of Fighter Weapons Newsletter from late '73 early '74. I posted a neat article about the A-7's projected map display.
I'll talk about our equivalent of the GPS-aiding for our inertial later. STBY has mentioned the new Viper nav-suite and it is awesome. However, when the A-7D showed up, the F-4 pukes were also awed. Our Doppler allowed us to do airborne alignments and to limit the INS drift. 30 years later we have GPS doing the same thing for the Viper INS. I luv it!
later,
We had a pilot once that flew down in a Fijord in Norway in the fog using his moving map display to avoid RNAF Vipers. Crazy guy. |

I'm trying to find some information on the A-7D LANA upgrade. Were all A-7Ds upgrades to this specification?
Thanks

Salute!
Well, you seem to have the nomenclature, Obi.
They aren't "old", but must be from after 1975 when I had to leave the SLUF.

Cheers Gums
Perhaps they are a pair of early pre-production examples. Looking at the shape of the fins, their proximity to the rear end of the bomb, the lack of taper between the rear and the middle of the bomb and the small protrusions at the rear end, there does seem to be quite a contrast with the current models?

All this talk about the SLUF reminds me of a newspaper article the Richmond Times-Dispatch did about the Va Air Guard back in the mid '80s. At the time we flew the A-7D which was not known for its beauty, but was a damn good bomber. The newspaper wrote, "The 192TFG flies the Vought A-7D, which is capable of subsonic speeds....". I got quite a laugh out of that article. I sorta thought ALL airplanes were capable of subsonic speeds.
Anybody remember a Vought Avionics Tech Rep named John Glenn?
