I've seen a few of these buried in other conversations and thought I'd start a topic. I'll start off with a simple one.
While we were recently deployed to PACAF we had to shelter the jets for an enroute typhoon (big shock). Anyway - rather than trying to quadruple stuff the jets in the PAS's the Base folks decided we could use one of their big empty hangars which was going to be much quicker. Well we got four of our jets in there when one of their safety folks comes out and tells us we can't put the jets in the hangar. The reason was that jets with missiles couldn't be put in the hangar. Funny thing is that they only had AMD pods on the wings and nothing else. We tried to explain that there was more danger from me farting and creating an explosion than there was from that pod. All to no avail - it was easier to move the jets than fight the battle. To this day that dude still probably thinks those are missiles. |

I knew a Pro Super at Misawa who routinely kept Swings working all night long. Somebody asked him why he did that; his answer was
"If something doesn't get done, that way I can tell them 'What do you want me to do? I kept them here all night'".
He was well loved by Swings.
Best Regards, |

Or the not so liked NCOIC at Homestead that made us string a rope from one end to the other and make sure the Pitot Tubes all touched. Reason for this was he was an EX-Tbird guy.
Can never forget TIDY FRIDAY at Macdill. I wonder how much money was lost on that day.
Had a pro super at Torrejon who made us wok 12+ on a Christmas eve. He said he didnt have his family there so he didnt care how long we were there. He was well liked. |

| Hurricane Andrew bearing down on Homestead and 2 F-16s need cover. NCO out of the hush house informs us that the hush house was packed, no room. Both F-16's placed in a hangar and later destroyed by the storm. NCO's boat and other personal belongings in the hush house weathered the storm just fine. |

Cool thread. This may be longer than JJs F-16 ops threads if I have a go at this. |

| A/C has an engine change. Once the engine is in a mistake is realized. An ndi has not been performed. The a/c is tdy coming home the next day. Rather than eyeballing or low freq inspecting the areas from the opposite side and one-time flying it home a crew is kept on tdy status with the a/c to remove the engine for the high freq ndi. No findings and a few days later everyone is home. How much did this waste? Alternative: Bite the bullet and get the waiver for the one-timer and take corrective action by counseling the technicians to be aware of the -6 requirements while engine is out. |

I would've loved to have been the first one in there after the storm, just so I could get photographic evidence, and have that SOB court-martialed. What happened to that guy Lurch?
When I was at Homestead, several people had pics of those two jets. One was repaired, and the other became a ground trainer at Sheppard.

The one I always had a problem with was the annual allotted budget. If you spend it all, you get as much, or more the following year. However, if you cannot spend it all, you get less. See where we're going here folks?
My Sup in Life Support (Tech for life, and proud of it) made us over-buy flight gear, and survival equipment that would never be used, simply because we "needed more money allotted for the next FY".
Now, we're stuck with all of this unused equipment, which we now need to find room for, or else we will bust inspection for stockpiling too much equipment. This was your "Military Circular Logic 101" lesson for the day, class.
To Err is Human. To Forgive is NOT ACC Policy. |

| Maybe that would explain the 2 instances in my dad's career as a fleet maintenance officer, once at Itazuke and once at Carswell, where he had guys driving vehicles aimlessly to build mileage. |

Should we tell the stories of the buried ConEx's with a new flower gardens planted on top? There's also the old story about the F-4 that was buried between the runways at Rhein Main. Pretty sure that one is urban legend but had buddies who swore they were there whenit happened. I know the ConEx thing happened though. |

If this were 3 years ago, and I wasn't scared about doing time in Ft. Leavenworth, I could've accomodated you. Not really, but we did have to get creative before the inspectors got there. Details of this mission remain classified...

TC if you hid it like we did you put it under the ceiling tiles. That's where we always hid our excess bench stock during inspections. Then we just prayed the ceiling would hold all the weight |

I was met at McDill AFB and had to make "A Statement" with a 0-6. My story was verified, and they did go after the NCO. I really didn't look into it any further, since I wanted it behind me. Not a fun situation to be involed with. |
