| Hey, what would be the best suggested kit for a -16CG to build, and any way of acquiring some decals to place the bird in the Nickel circa 1996-2000? Possibly both the blue tail flashes and the green? Tail numbers preferred would be 89-2009 and or 89-2018. But the old CO bird 88-0550 with the "Neon Chicken" would be a nice bird too, we also had 88-0532 with the lightning bolt for the 31st Ops Group, first with a split longways blue/purple, then later green/purple for the Nickel and Dime. We also had 89-2016 for the 16th AF flagship. I can't recall the original tail flash, but sometime during 1997 it was repainted to what we called the "band-aid" a giant blue strip across the middle of the tail with bright white stars in it, and a split triangle/diagonal blue/purple stripe as the tail flash. Later there was some sort of lightning bolt design as I've seen in a few pictures. If you require some of the names for the rails for these birds let me know, I can remember most of them if you need it. |

Hi Ghettobird
Best kit is the Hasegawa F-16C in 1/48, but you need to update the HUD by using either the Eduard photoetch update or Black Box cockpit HUD parts.
Decals:
Astra Decals:
ASD-4808: Enough markings including mission markings for any jet of the 510FS, including CO`s bird
ASD-4809: Enough markings including mission markings for any jet of the 555FS, including CO`s bird
ASD-4812: Plenty of markings for 31OSS, 31OG, and other top-brass jets
Aeromaster:
48-523: Contains markings of 510FS CO`s bird, 16AF with blue stared banner on tail + 89-2137 before becomming 31OG jet
Eagle Strike:
48-072: Markings for 31FW CO`s bird + 89-2057
48-073: 555FS CO`s bird
48-074: 31OG Jet with map of Italy on tail
TwoBobs:
48-089: New markings for 31OG and USAFE
48-083: Generic F-16 numbers and stencils to make any kind of Viper serial number.
I`m not supriced if I missed some other great decal sheets covering the 31FW, but these should get you a long way.
If your chosen scale is 1/72 or 1/32, many of the same sheets are also available in these scales aswell.
Most of these decals are available from places like www.Greatmodels.com, www.hannants.co.uk and other great online stores.
I`ve used many of these decals myself, some of wich you can see here:
http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-4156.html
Best of luck and let us have a look to see how it turns out |

Here's what the plans are. The "Neon Chicken" is a done deal. I'd like to include the blue tail flash, but I'm stuck on the crew names.....unless somebody who was there can help out
So, in lieu of that, it will have the markings it was lost in....no names on the rails.
Balls 9 in current markings, though again, if somebody could help with the details from the blue flash era, we'd do it that way as well.
The rest are current jets, or OAF ones. I'm planning a fairly extensive sheet here that covers most eras, and man could I use the help!!
Feel free to ping me direct.

What you really need is either the Hasegawa F-16"CJ" or "CG" kit.
The standard F-16C kit lacks the proper block 50/40 upgrades, bulged MLG doors, block 50 wheels, NLG door light assy, LEF RWR Antennas, and MCID intakes for those GE powered Vieprs.
With the CJ kit, you get AIM-120's, LAU-129's, AGM-88's, LAU-118's, and an HTS Pod.
The CG kit (very hard to find BTW) you get LANTIRN & NAV Pods but no bombs.
You'll still need to add the WAR HUD though.

Hey Ghetto, thanks a BUNCH!
Dahlbecks' callsign was "Guide", correct?
Also, does SSgt Aaron Sellers sound familiar for the DCC?
When did the "neon chicken" shed the blue tail flash? What I'm getting at is, did it fly with the blue flash with this set of crew names? |

| I think it might have been Guido now that you mention it. And I think Sellers was at one point, but not sure if it was the blue or green flashes..we changed somewhere around spring or summer of 97, so the neon flew with both after she was painted with that beautiful tail. |

Yeah, dont rush it.
Astra (DACO) screwed the pooch wit thier Aviano series! The colors were so off on the first run. The replacement runs were not much better.
I seriouly doubt Scott & Mike will will fair the same fate, as AB decals are well researched and produced.
