The flight models are different, and 4.0 really is harder to maneuver and doesn't seem as stable. I was also surprised at how little rudder was used. I use a lot of rudder in 4.0.....like flying a cessna. I automatically did that in the viper sim and wallowed around quite a bit at first. I honestly was thinking "oh well, they have it on beginner mode or something" but after doing some VERY basic mode switching, it became apparent that the less time you spend trying to actually fly the jet, the better off you are because the 74 trillion different modes you have to choose from get REAL confusing REAL quick, LOL! Looking thru the NVGs and trying to do it is CRAZY I tell you. I have NO idea how they do that.

I guess its just lots of practice, but holy cow do you have to be sharp to keep track of what's going on. I kept looking for the 4.0 cheat sheet taped to the screen, LOL!

Thanks Haz, I'll try both and see which one I like better.

LOL Scott. yeah, I've had a few hours in the simulators at Luke. I too thought it was much easier than F4.

I have this game and from what I played so far (3 or 4 hours), it is pretty intresting. Being a fuel shopper, I can do some things, but as far a targeting, radar, and a few other things in the cockpit that I dared not to touch in real life (but wanted to and was itching to do so). I am not sure what they are used for. I noticed one reply in this thread for a "cheat sheet" where can I get this? I want to be a bit more aggressive at flying and shooting. So that way I can stop shoting my wingmen because they are easier to shoot because they aren't trying to shoot you! Sounds mean, but seems like a plan until I know how to fly it CORRECTLY and know what does what.

Heh, thats funny CajunMaintainer. I was always annoyed at how hard my wingman were to shoot. Cause they always try and fly on your wing its annoying to get them in front of you and in the pipper.

Radar and Avionics... only advice... read the manual. I finally just finished; word for word; walked through all the training missions like it instructed. I have to say, I still dont know how to use half the functions in AF. I see things on the MFDs and in the cockpit the manual never even touched on. But I am far more profficient at using the sim now than I was before. I can employ any of the weapons in the game and perform on take off/landing procedures, refueling, etc... In other words I can run the campaign if I want to.

As far as dog fighting and being aggressive; well, the BFM sections may help out but I never had a problem with this. When I first got the game I knew how a stick worked and I knew how a throttle worked and I had no problem staying behind people, but I had no clue how to use the avionics to shoot them. It might be just me but I think the AI is really really stupid in this game. I dont think I ever do dog fight mode against any thing other than Aces now and I've started dumbing the AI on my wingman. . .
