Hi fellow patch collectors,
I'm new on this site and in this forum. As a 55 years old virtual Viper driver via 87th VFW, I have an other hobby. Collecting Dutch related F16 patches: General, education, training missions (including Tigermeets) flighthours, Balkans and Afghanistan and virtual squadrons.
My question is: how can I upload some patches. I could not find any instructions (instead of a patch on a white background).
With regards,
Bob "Borock" Iken

Hi <b>Borock</b>,
Glad to find a new patch contributer to the site.. Here are some instructions you can use to add patches to the gallery.
1. After accessing the 'patch gallery' go to the 'Uploads' section.
2. In the top right corner there is a drop down list of options. Select 'add photos'.
3. Select the number of patches you wish to upload at any one time. Usually set to 5. But can be changed to a greater or lesser number.
4. Select the patches you want to upload, add appropriate caption details. E.g. Details regarding the patch and add who's uploading the patch for the appropriate credit.
Captions should be short and to the point. Also your credit details must appear as follows at end of caption (<Your Full Name> Collection). This is a must or I will remove the posting or place it in a temp directory till those details are provided.
The rules on the scans is as follows:
a. Patch scans must be scanned with white backgrounds. No other colours excepted
b. Don't crop the image close to the patch border, this avoids chopping of any part of the patch. Also don't be to generous with giving to much white background. Look at some examples in the gallery to get a clue of whats requested.
c. Avoid using cropping utilities in image editing software. Far to many people aren't clued up on how to really use it and provide some good patches with poor cropping.
d. If your still struggling with the uploading. Send scans to me (PM to Asif) and I'll do some of the uploading for you. Remember to provide appropriate details when sending. |

You got some nice pieces on display in the picture. Also notice a lot of patches we already have. To avoid reposting any of those, I suggest you investigate what we have and add new patches to the growing library. |

Hi Asif,
I uploaded some patches. (some 2 times because I made a new picture with a white background).
During uploading part 3 it was a very long time the upload in progress. So I stopped. Next time further.
I could not place the badges in the right directory. It is an administrator task I guess.
Greetings from the Netherlands,

Members can only upload to the 'uploads' section. Then Admin [me or Jon normally] can move to correct directories as you correctly pointed out. Now the big however, all of yours have gone into the Album marked: 'Scans that don't meet the Mark! (Held for reference)'
I see your not heeding the guidelines on the white background. Your providing to much border in some of the pictures or poorly aligning in others so patch is not centered.
Would be better if you took all the patches you provided to date and use a scanner, rather than a digital camera, which is what I think you used [Am I right ]. The output from digital taken pictures often are NO match for a decent scanner.
The cropping is not good either. Suggest you look at some of my uploads to get feel of what we are looking for. Plug my name into the search engine on the patch pages to see some of or all of my patches. Then using that principle do your scans in a similar way. |
