The procedures have seemed to change. In the old -6WC there was an * next to the requirement to check the door. The * represented that you did the check if the system was going to be used.

However, the new ITODS do not have the *, and there is no reference to only check it if it is to be used. So to follow the TO correctly the IFR door should be checked on every launch. Rolling Eyes

It's actually 4 cells containing 3 lights each, 2 cells on each side inside the IFR bay. At least, that was the setup on my blk 52 from MT. Home. Thats also how the old a$$ trainer jets here at sheppard are.

Another reason you may see the IFR door being ops checked on a launch is for hot pits. You want to know that the pilot will be able to depress the tanks to combat pressure so the jet will accept fuel while the engine is running. I also always had to ops check before every sortie regardless of anticipated actions when deployed in a combat situation. Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the first things done when a viper pilot is engaged, be it SAM's or AAA, is open the IFR door to drop to combat pressure in the tanks. I believe it's 3-5 psi... somewhere in there. Never know when that all might happen when launching sorties out of "Fwd Ops AFB" Evil or Very Mad

260chief...are you talking about the *'s in the BPO/PR cards or in the launch cards. Or both?
