I scored an 80 out of 99 on my recent ASVAB test and a military career score of 6 out of 7(I think). What can I do with it?

Well I want to be a fighter pilot, can it help me for college like the SAT can? Or can it give me special privileges in the military? I don't want to go to the recruiter cuz they'll give me bull I heard, so I went here since most of you in here have military related experiences.

It'll do you good then, it's not much more than a primer for the services to see what kind of aptitude you have, so they have a good idea where you'd excel. Just like SAT scores. And thos ehelp too, but only so much. You'll find that an SAT score really isn't all it's cracked up to be. If you wanna be a pilot though, I highly suggest you get your FAA Private while you're at it. See once you get commissioned, they'll send you to IFT, where you have to come back with something very important....your FAA Private.... If you aready have it going in, you can skipe this step. Only catch is, you gotta pay for it yourself, but you have everything to gain by having it already when you're commissioned.

Well, is it expensive? I mean I don't even have a job yet, currently looking for one. But how long is the FAA Private Pilot's course and how much?

$$$....is all it is. Time depends on you. Currently, it's about $5000. Quite a problem if you're not working. Can mom & dad help?

They can, but not at the moment. I'm going to college in Sept, so we're more focused on that. Maybe while I'm in college I can work on it. Thanks!

All I know is that I scored an 89 and the coast guard won't leave me alone. They can't get it through their heads that I want to go to the air force. It's very frustrating when you get a letter from them every month. If their's anyone here from the coast guard. I'm begging you PLEASE GET THEM TO STOP!

That's the funny thing, all branches except for the Air Force has called me. I don't know whether it's because I was in AFJROTC and they don't like people to advance quick enough or I don't know. But the recruiter in my region is only a SSgt. which would make me 2 ranks lower if I enlist and have my AFJROTC certification approved. But I want to be an officer so that's outta the question.

Get a job dude, start paying for it yourself. That's what I did. If I can do it, you can do it.

NYC isn't really the best place to get a job, most jobs require full time and I can only do part time because of school. Also, competitions for even fast food restaurants is tough. I've been applying to jobs for about 7 months now and still no response. Too overpopulated. But I'll keep trying.

| You're lucky there are any jobs where you are. I currently live in the smallest county in Pennsylvania and the smallest town in the county. There aren't any jobs here unless you want to work at the gas station, the restaurant, or the bar. If you really want to do good in the Air Force, get into Civil Air Patrol. I'm currently a CAP cadet and believe me, we do alot mor than AFJROTC. It's entirely volunteer and we preform a number of important missions from serch and rescue to homeland security and anti-narcoterrorism. | Maybe Daniel Webster in NH. They have an AFROTC course and its an Aviation College. If not then Embry Riddle, maybe. |

Ah yes....the wonderful money pit called Embry-Riddle. Well, you'll get your private there for sure, it's part of the curriculum. But if you thought $5000 was bad for the private, it'll be double that at ERAU. Webster huh? Dunno how much it costs to go there, but I have competed against their flying team, and they were pretty nice guys. Although none of them ever beat me at Aircraft ID. |
