Legally? Confused Those are restricted distribution (not necessarily classified) documents and, while they may show up on occasion, there is a notification on the title page that states the distribution restrictions. I think the Men In Black might come knocking at your door if someone were to try selling -1s on the open market.

The closest a person who is not somehow involved with the aircraft in an official capacity is to read the manual for the Falcon 4.0 PC flight simulation. It's not a -1 but much of the contents is obviously based on it.

I had access to -1s when I worked at GD/LMTAS and when I worked on F-16 (WST & UTD)simulators.

Does it have to be for a block 40/50 (CG/CJ)? There are places that sell the -1 for F-16C's in PDF format.

http://www.eflightmanuals.com

They are $18.95

I've heard horror stories over on ARC about dealing with those guys. IIRC the CD has a bunch of manuals on it but then you have to get an encryption code or password from the seller - here's a link to one of the threads:

We got one from them and had no problems, no password stuff or anything like that. Check Ebay too, seen them there at times.

I haven't seen the latest manuals from the AF, but I do know that a lot of the Army manuals that used to be restricted are no longer. This stems from a Clinton-era directive to minimize the classified workload. They are now making the more sensitive information into separate suppliments or manuals and keeping them restricted, but general stuff like the Dash-1 may not be restricted as much as before.

I wasn't trying to dismiss eflightmanuals.com, just passing on what I have heard.

I inquired about electronic T.O. documents at LMTAS last year and was told then that they were still tightly controlled. Not classified, but I got the impression what they (LM and probably AF) were worried about was that someone somewhere might use an outdated manual in place of the correct one and it could cause problems - both safety of flight as well as liability. Face it - once an electronic copy gets out then somebody will start duping it and distributing it either for favors or for profit. Unfortunately it is human nature (or maybe a byproduct of American Capitalism...)

I'm sure anyone who has dealt with -1s knows about the change page ritual and the importance of knowing you have the latest/correct -1 (or any other document).

Thats what they do with Crew Chiefs that have been bad and need a spanking: "Congrats, you're the new update guy for all the T.O.s and pubs, etc" Twisted Evil Very Happy Very Happy

I believe the main reason the -1 is kept under wraps for the most part is it lists certain flight envelope information and such. This could be why the AF treats it as sensitive not classified.

F-16Pointy is correct. I suspect that many if not all of the publicly available dash 1s are only Section 1 and do not include the supplements.
