| Currently still fly Sepecat Jaguars. In 1985 they ordered 8 Tornados (ADV) but later cancelled it due to financial problems. |

And at approximately 1630 local time on Saturday the 15th of October the first two F-16's landed at Thumrait in Oman. F-16C Block 50 '810' and F-16D '801' overflew Thumrait for the first time escorted by two of our Jaguar aircraft and were in the hangar the next moring when we got to work.
I am an aircraft/engines Leading Hand on Jaguars and was very interested to be able to examine the aircraft as I had never seen an F-16 in person before, having worked on F-18s in the Royal Australian Air Force. A neat bird with some interesting features which the Omanii pilots will find very different to the much lower powered twin engined Jaguar.
The Jaguar is not scheduled to be retired untill at least 2012, so it will serve alongside the F-16 for a while yet.
The overall FS 36270 grey paint scheme of the RAFO F-16's do make them visually quite different to other camouflage schemes and VERY different to the sand and brown camouflage of the Jaguars.
Cheers

| While I was still finishing my training at Luke generals from Oman came to talk to a few of us about the training need for maintainers. They seemed a little hesitant about wanting to step into such a large program. I wonder what changed their mind in those 2 years. |
