Hi Feņa:

Yes, you did loose a good chance to tease peruvians.
It is an interesting thought but let's put things in perspective.

Peru has been operating Mirage 2000s for the past 20 years and they were the best fighters in South America, even superior to the F-16s from Venezuela since the planes are armed with Magic and -530 missiles compared to just -9ls. The M2000s have been modernised recently to carry PGMs as well.

The Peruvian MIG-29s include the most modern operational version and can fire BVR missiles. No other country in Southamerica has that capability I believe, despite the possibility that the FACh has Derby missiles arming the F-5s. The MIG-29s have been operational now for a number of years.

Chile is about to receive the F-16s and still some way to go before IOC is achieved and it gains experience with the plane, and again, you have to be very positive the USA will not pull the plug on your planes at some point. That is the reason why Peru acquires its planes from different sources and why Peru chose the M2000 over the F-16 20 years ago. Peru is not silly.

Now, do you seriously think Peru has not taken notice of this purchase and be probably well advanced in its plans to "modernise" its fighter force and maybe even acquire advanced SAMs or further convert its existing M2000s to -5 standard.

The F-16 is a beatiful and great multipurpose plane but to say that you can just shootdown Peruvian M200s and MIG-29 is just a dream.

And Feņa fell down the bed in the middle of the dream, hit his head on the floor, woke up and heard the news that a Puma had just been shot down with an Addler missile at BVR fired by a MIG-29.

Regards

Hi,
I understand that FAP's Mirage-2000 only have upgrades in the A-G field. (laser guided bombs).
There are only 3 peruvian MiG's that can use BVR weapons, they were bought directly to russia, not like the rest of the fleet.

In this moment i think that peruvian priorities are to keep their helicopter and cargo fleet in operational status.

Greetings

Hi F16Viper:

Yep, i did loose a good chip to make jokes to some peruvians friends, we usually have friendly conversations over the net ....

I think you overestimate the readiness of the peruvian AF, their material have a serious lack of maintenance due the low budget delivered by Mr. Toledo`s Goverment ... so, it is a impressive plane ... IF IT FLYES

In the PGM area, practically all the fighters in the FACH (F5 / Mirage Elkan / Mirage Pantera) has the hability to carry them, mainly israeli made ammunitions. So that`s not really something to make us worry since we have such capacity for some years too ..

We also operate IV gen missiles, like the Derby that you mentioned and the Python IV and V, linked to a DASH helmet, that the peruviand also ... don`t had ...

The peruvians has 19 Mig 29, and just 3 (yes 3) of them has the electronics to use the AA 12 missiles, and again, the main problem for the MIG force is the lack of adecuate funding .... no money, no fly ...

I had to agree with you with the trainig time needed to had the F16 force fully operational, but if something make the FACH different is their intensive training ... and their are quite profesional force, so, yes of course it will take some time, but that time wasn`t be forever ...

And since the US has signed a FTA with us and the most likely outcome of the presidential election will be the continuity of our current goverment alliance, I dont see any likely problem in the next 5 - 6 year ... besides, you don`t put and embargo on one of your few friends in LA, even more when it has a fully democratic goverment ...

When you said that Peru has been "clever" enough (yeah, right) to has several sources of materiel, I see the logic after that decision but I see a clear weakness too, since the cost of mantenaince rise and they had to keep two extremely different logistic lines (you can put a Mig 29 spare in a M2P engine?, I didn`t think so) with few alternative sources of spares ... that is clearly seen in the poor perfomance of their helo force .. this is not something trivial since the budgets are more tight every year ...

Has I previously said, Peru is NOT silly, Peru is just BROKE ...

Yep, I KNOW that the peruvians had take notice of this purchase since the chilean MoD always inform our neighbour countryes ... something that no other LA country does, by the way ... this had provoqued a pannic attack in some peruvian press saying that the chilean goverment is preparing an invasion on them ... for what reason? I don`t truly know ... but Peru is increasingly becoming an unfriendly neighbor .... even trying to change the maritime limits with us with BS arguments ...

The peruvians ARE trying to modernise their fighting capabilityes, but again, for a serious effort you need ... yeah, you need money too ... if they didn`t had enough cash to keep their planes flying and the peruvian navy has to make a nation wide PR campaign to obtain the US$20 million needed to buy two second-hand Lupo frigates .. you gona try to convince me that they had the money to make a REAL upgrade program for their fighter force? ... well if you have some hard data ... please share it ... cup holders dosen`t count has "upgrades" ...

I have see some "modernisation" programs developed by peruvians, in one they attach two "missile launch systems" (if you can call it that) to their Army T55, the catch is that the missiles were Malyutkas from the 1950 year, if THAT is their concept of "new" weaponry ....

Yes off course it is a symplification, you HAD to take another elements in the ecuation, just to give you and example, the peruvians fighter force are guided by CGI controlers and the FACH has AWACS (israeli made, Phalcon AEW) support, this HAS to mean something in the outcome, right?

I think that you are too optimist and a little bit uninformed about this issue, I will recomend you that button up your restrain jacket again and keep on dreaming about MIG 29 shooting down and F16, since that is the only escenario in wich that outcome could likely appened ...

When you mean the MiG-killer that shot down an MiG-29 from Serbia back in 1999 during operation Alied Force than I can tell you that the serial you gave is wrong. Its not J-095!! Inf fact J-095 doesn't exist in the Dutch airfroce inventory. Serial J-063 is the right one and is in service with 322 sqn at Leeuwarden AB. The Vipers intended for Chile are mostly block 10 A/B MLU's. They are now at Twente AB.
