I'm about to build an optional A or B model Viper, and wanted to do my own decals for the model. However, this will affect the way I build the model itself. I was hoping someone would know which, if any, squadrons from the 31st TFW at Homestead flew B models back in the 1980s.
By the way, if any Homestead squadrons did fly B models back in the '80s, could someone tell me what Block number(s) they were, and what the proper tail code was?
I know sometime back in the early to mid '80s timeframe, there was a tail-code change at Homestead. They went from "ZF" to "HS." Any assistance at all concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Check the gallery here, and did you do a GIS yet?
Also we have a wonderful serials database that will tell you what the serials were/are. |

| One of the issues of World Air Power Journal listed all operators/users of the F-16, including deactivated squadrons (including Homestead). IIRC they listed some tail numbers. I have the issue at home, I'll try to remember to pull it out. |

On 01 October 1982 the 31st TFW received its first F-16A/Bs Block 15s, equipping four squadrons - 306th (yellow fin flash), 307th (red FF), 308th (green FF) and 309th (blue FF). Tailcode at the time was ZF but changed to HS in 1985. At some point the 306th was deactivated, and the remaining three squadrons displayed their squadron names in white script on the colored FF - 307th Stingers, 308th Knights and 309th Wild Ducks. During 1990 the wing converted to Block 40 F-16C/Ds but the entire wing was deactivated in 1993 after Homestead was closed permanently as a result of damage incurred by hurricane Andrew in 1992.
I didn't find any pictures of 31 TFW Bs but I'm sure they had some. |

| Thanks very much for the help you guys. This has convinced me to go ahead and build this kit as a B model. I'll have to let you know how it turns out. Maybe, if it turns out the way I want it to, I'll submit a pic. Thanks again! |

| Why don't you submit pics during the build? |

| The only reasons why I won't show any "Work In Progress" pics, is because 1)Dunno when I can actually get to it to start building 2)It is a small model...Will be built and most likely detailed all in one or two sit downs and 3)The artist in me doesn't like to show my work before it's finished. |
