Question....I know that after being marshalled out, viper pilots make hand signals that vary, I'm assuming, according to squadron.....For example 2 fists in the air or another is rolling hands over one another...

Can I get some help as to the various signals, their meaning and their respective sqaudrons.

Thanks in advance.

Not that kind of hand signals, lol... the other ones that every squadron has. The universal Viper hand signal after getting marshalled out of chocks is both arms up with a clenched fist, that's pretty standard. Buzzards(510FS) are one arm over the other up with fingers clawed out. Panthers looks the same also, Samurais do the kung fu chop, Makos do the hand over the head, looking like a shark, oh my all time favorite and we still use it is the SHOCKA two fingers minus one at the bottom(555FS), there's many more, common ladies and gentlemeen, help me out

Most I see are the two fists in the air hitting each other or just a "hang loose" hand with the thumb and pinky extended. They don't mean much more than a gesture to stay pumped because they have a killer job. Wink

Hang loose goes back to the 35FS (Pantons) at Kunsan AB, Korea and the arms up with fists takes roots with the Juvats in Korea. Since a lot of Viper guys have been through Korea you'll see a lot of guys doing their old thing. Each squadron does have their own thing. The Tigers at Shaw have the Claws, the Shooters have the shocker and the Gamblers do some gun thing. Rules are you have to always display your squadron sign when passing another jet or the SOF tower and taxiing out of chocks or EOR or when ever someone else displays it.

guys, here's a F-16 marshalling dance video from You Tube, it takes the boredom away and it was recorded by a crewman of the 91-0468 from the 79th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Wing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poorORrTlkU Beer
