Does anyone know the proper designation for the chin-mounted jammer pods used on F-16 adversary/aggressor jets? (e.g.AN/XYZ-nnn)

I asked this tangentially in another thread but I thought it probably deserves a thread of its own.

(edited to correct image URL)

I started this topic, so let me reiterate the original question: what is the designation of the pods in question? I don't want to know what they do, what they are made of, or why they are there... I just want to know the AN-designation?

If anyone ever says this equipment is "sensitive" that is BS. It might have been a long time ago, but not anymore. These pods were introduced by the U.S. Navy for their F-16Ns to increase their RCS during TOPGUN exercises. The F-16 has such a small RCS they needed a way to simulate a bigger enemy aircraft. That is all anyone needs to know. The AN/ type number might be found by searching for info on the F-16N.

I just helped remove two of these for the first time on an agressor yesterday. The pod is hollow, nothing electronic inside. They have no connector, and the hardpoint cover stays on underneath the pod. So, no jamming or any other capabilities here. Just makes a small blip into a bigger one.

OK, eighteen months later and folks are still posting what the pods do or don't do. I don't care what they do or why they are there. (although some of the replies have been interesting)

My original question: do these have an AN/xxx designation, or are they simply known as AMA/AMD?

For instance the HTS - HARM Targeting System is AN/ASQ-213
The LANTIRN pod set is AN/AAQ-13 (NAV) and AN/AAQ-14 (TGP)
The PAVE PENNY pod is AN/AAS-35
The radar is AN/APG-66 and AN/APG-68

The AMA/AMD pod is is AN/____-____ ???

As this pod has no electrical anything inside it, I doubt it has an AN system designation. I believe it would have to be part of a system to have that assigned to it, and it's part of no system.

It does NOT have a AN designation.

Dude,

Most of us are all about OPSEC and we've left this topic alone since 9/18/05 - why bring it back up Confused ?
