| He's had the paint scheme for a couple of years now, with Qantas' blessing. Sorta like a contracted good will ambassador for Qantas. Not sure if JT and the airline share the upkeep burden tho. Wouldn't mind seein' some cockpit shots to see what he's done to bring it up to modern day requirements. |

Ahh the life of the idle rich..........
Does the guy have his own private runway with air traffic control? Is this house based at an airport and just serves as his own private terminal???? |

Yeah, his home is in Ocala, FL, about 4 1/2 hours southeast of me...a little longer, a little shorter, depending on my tail wind, traffic, cops, and how fast I drive
The G4 was acquired near Cincinnati. I know this because I know one of the guys who maintains it when he flies it back for heavy maintenance and/or trades it in for the latest model. He said John's a really cool guy, and while the knuckle busters want to talk Pulp Fiction or Get Shorty with him, he wants to talk flying with them.
Qantas had one stipulation for John with the 707. They said, "If you are going to fly a jet with Qantas markings, and represent our airline, we must first make you a Qantas captain." So, they made John a Qantas captain (uniform and all). He said this was his biggest honor, because he wanted to be an airline captain from the time he was a little boy.
John gets pushed back, and turned onto the taxi way, which you can see at the 707's 6 O'Clock. He flies out of a private, gated-community runway, which is controlled by the Ocala Airport. I believe the community itself, though, is a non-controlled facility, IIRC.
Someone in that neighborhood owns a Mustang, and I think there MIGHT be a Sabre there as well. Not completely sure on that one though.
All I know is that you have to pay a very stiff fee if you land there and you aren't a resident!
If you did it, you'd have to do a Jake and Elwood, write the check on the dashboard, kind of getaway!

(in your best Chicago accent) We'll uh...we'll talk to Bob...
Oh yeah, doesn't John Travolta own a Mustang too? I know Tom Cruise owns one, but something was telling me that John owned one too. I know one of the tenants in that flying community does own a P-51.
If I were a rich A-hole like that, with all of the money on God's Green Earth to blow, I'd have to get an RF-4...The fastest Rhino! Alone, Unarmed, and Scared $hitless...er, I mean, Unafraid! Yeah, yeah! That's the ticket!

Lo Siento amigos. I should've specified. If I'm not mistaken (as I can be from time to time) there is no tower at the field. Traffic control, IINM, is handled by the Ocala Airport, with regional control handled by JAX Center...you know, just in case I, in my aforementioned personal Recon Rhino, wanted to do a max climb to Flight Level 2-Zero-Zero, I could call JAX! |

TC,
The “penguin” said these are the specs. It’s uncontrolled according to the Southeast U.S. Airport/Facility Directory. The "penguin" also said Jake and Elwood needed to get into church. But I personally think if this info is inaccurate, the Rev. Cleofus should have all the answers down at the Triple Rock. You know that Gen. Yeager’s middle name is Elwood…
The "penguin" would not approve of this picture, but it’s on their ad for Jumbolair…

Purddeist penguin I ever saw JR!
I wonder if she'd like to join the "Mile High Club?" Heh heh!
TNX for the info on the airport. It confirmed what I had previously thought. I just couldn't see the FAA building a tower just for Vinny Barbarino's, er, Tony Manero's, er, Vincent Vega's, er, John Travolta's sake!
Yeah, I knew that about Chuck Yeager... Something else that will always remind me of "The Blues Brothers." If you ever make it back to KPAM, I'll take you to the sacred statue of Jake and Elwood!
Yes, and this Irish Catholic boy DOES need to make it back to church one of these days! Far too long for the kid, it has been, I'm afraid...
Shame on me. Shame on ME.

| 7550 x 210 runway! Musta been a former base or something. What's the 17FL identifier? Shouldn't there be a 'K' there somewhere? |
