So, ELP, what do you propose filling the tactical fighter role when the Vipers reach their structural life?
If you are really bored..... ( like when the test pattern comes up on the TV with the National Anthem, or when you are watching some paint dry and can kill some time etc there is already enough of my rantings on the forum here that address that. Not like it matters.... or like there is an open space on the PowerPoint Briefing at Lockheed, Boeing, DOD, USAF etc where there is always some important bullets on what I ... ELP think that particular week. ) .... I'll just happily watch the train move along and pay my taxes over and over. DODs strategy for procuring weapons ( along with congress pulling the rug out from them every other day ), reminds me of the old Adams Family TV series ( before the time of some of the forum audience here ) ... Where Mr. Adams watches the two model electric trains go head to head on a collision course while he blows up the bridge, and then looks at the whole mess with great satisfaction. )
Anyway.... speaking of successful strategy...how bout them Lions? |

Come on guys, this is the beauty of the United States of America, the banter is fun and I love reading everyone’s opinion/facts and elp brought up some pretty decent points regarding stealth capabilities, but man when the F/A-18E/F was mentioned I just couldn't resist.
However I was thinking pretty single minded about the maintenance aspect of the whole thing being a crew chief previously, I will admit, we could continue in my opinion buy Vipers, Eagles and that piece of crap Hornet for the Navy and Marines, we would still kick everyone’s a$$ no doubt, elp will chew my a$$ for this but the technology available is incredible, why not use it?
I was in Marietta a few months ago and that damn F-22 is incredible, talk about locked and loaded, even on the ground with the canopy open, that bad boy is spring loaded, but do we need 100,000 of them? Hell no, not even close and if the pilots keep bragging about what a bad a$$ it is they won't get but the 175 or whatever it is now. Those dudes need to shut the Hell up if they want more.
Now, as for the F-35, it won't cost what the F-22 does, not even close and there are way to many countries involved financially for this program to be cancelled (I hope).
The main landing gear is installed, the upper wing skin is going on Thursday and this bad boy is looking really good, what a great looking jet, no Viper but I'm coming around, LOL.
Here we go again!!
Oh and did I mention what a piece of crap the Hornet is? |

lol thank you Boman...
I'm with Happy on the Reverse Psychology thing. All the -22 pilots should just start screaming that the Raptor is FUBAR, and they cant stand flying in something this bad. Betcha 5 bucks Congress will go "Hmmmm, these reports say the F/A-22's performance has been sub-par as of late. I believe we should introduce a bill for procurement of about 500 more. That should also bring the unit cost down," |

| Back on topic, I agree and think the F-35 will become a great aircraft, it just needs time to prove itself. |

Don't beat up on F-18E/F maintenance too much... I mean at the flight line level the guys love it. ( maybe Lawman can brief us better on this )... yeah it is a legacy jet etc... and we have already posted on other non-flightline maintenance issues it has... AND of course if you were an F-14 guy spending your time bouncing objects off of various surfaces looking for delamination ("thud" ) and all the other hard work associated with F-14 maintainers, you just love the F-18E/F from a maintenance view. |
