Balad Airbase is one of the largest Airbases in Iraq. The airfield is served by two runways 11,300 and 11,200 feet long respectively. So plenty of runway space for those birds to land on. Guess we will have to wait for the accident report to find out why it rolled off.

First accident was due to pilot error, bad brakes, and poor airfield lighting.

the runway at balad is in horrible condition. first off the primary mission of the base is supply and logistics so countless C-5's c-17's and c-130's land and take off every day. the runway has so many potholes and falling apart from aircraft and their still fixing it from when we bombed it during desert storm. for about a good 6-7 hours during the day the runway is closed for repairs but they dont seem to help. i know because i was at balad at the beginning of the year with my F-16 and we had problems with it unit
