I know people like nice clean models but the real thing only looks that way a few days after coming back from a repaint.
Not I! I know the real deal is dirty, so I make my models dirty!
And I use pastels, but I also use a technique whe I paint primer, then quickly paint grey, then black, then white primer over it all, in quick succession. Let it cure a bit, and with a 1000 grit piece, start sanding away at the layers. The result is a realistic looking ablative finish, as I'm sure you're familiar with |

| For real accuracy they should also have blobs of grease throughout the gear wells....haven't seen anyone do that yet! |

| Also neeed some red cord showing on the tires and a few red streaks of hydraulic fluid from a few various drains. Also maybe some bird crap on the vertical if it's a springtime settting. Hey - that would make a great diorama! A -16 sitting on the ramp and one crew chief chasing away blackbirds while another is pulling birds nest out of the gun bay. Probably win a modeling competiton with that one. |

| Another cool one would be to build a PAS/HAS and light it with LED's and then put a -16 inside. |

Don't forget the deceased insects splattered on the canopy! (or the spilled piddle pack on the seat. There's a scratch-and-sniff that I could do without!) |

Any self respecting crew chief would not let their plane get that dirty. I know mine is wiped after every flight. I do hate when someone else LUBES the gear, though. A lot of extra wiping for about five flights. |

Well,I can't vouch for Falconfixer860261 keeping his current assigned Viper clean since I retired but I know when we crewed '260 together we kept it pretty darn clean.
