I am finishing a Radio-controlled, turbine powered F-16 in scale 1:6, with the markings of the 432 TFW.
I was wondering if any of you guys have any photos and addidtional info about some of the F-16's in this wing?

I was stationed there from '86 through '88. Lived through the transition from F-16A/B to brand new F-16C/D models, activation of the 14th TFS (aka the JV squad), Cope Thunder, Combat Sage, base growing pains a busted ORI and months of exercises that followed.

From the angle of your photo it's hard tell if it's an A or C model. The wing flagships were F-16A 83-1115 which crashed at sea in March of 87. The pilot Capt. Larry D. Oswitz ejected safely. After that F-16C 85-1432 wore the wing colors. The Wing Commander at the time was Col R Dean Stickle. His name was on the left side of the canopy frame.

Those were good times!

Ya sure? I remember ol John Lorber was the wing King when Skippy put 83-1115 into the water.
We had the A's and C's on the ramp at the same time and they were afraid that someone would be confused if they had two jets with 432 on the tail (83-1115 and 85-1432)
So 83-1115 was painted over with a Grey Tail with only MJ on it.
got pix of the tail section we brought up in the spring-summer of 88 when parts were salvaged.

If it is an A model it would only have the Black n White checks, the pic looks like it has the "Cosmic Fruit Bat" on the back of the jet below the canopy rear transparancy, so I am guessing it should be a c model. However the tail looks too short to be a C and I dont see the Upper UHF antenna (The Logo was designed by Sra Troy Hotard, his wife was a CC in the 14th) This logo was only applied to the C model jets. 83-1115 never has the logo nor the black and white "Shadowed" MJ or 432

One more pic of the tail

I had forgotten that they kept the tail for ABDR training. It sat up there with the F101 Voodoo as I recall.

You can just make out the sticker the Navy put on the tail when they salvaged it.

Now that you mention it I don't remember for sure when it was that Col Lorber came in. But I'm pretty sure it was after 83-1115 crashed. That was March of 87. I just remember the whole DCM + DUI = CC + DCM x PCS equation which I thought was later in the summer or fall.

From an 8 year old article in "Airman" comes the following:

The general, who was in Japan visiting PACAF units, was stationed at Yokota as 5th Air Force deputy chief of staff for operations from August 1986 to June 1987.

Following that assignment, Lorber was stationed at Misawa Air Base as the 432nd Tactical Fighter Wing commander from June 1987 to July 1989. He assumed duties as PACAF commander in October 1994.

I was at Misawa from 1988-1990. I was a young airman in the 13th AMU and worked as a weapons tech aka "load toad". I remember practicing for and going through the ORI that gave Lorber his star. I recently discovered a model kit of Lorber's jet and realized I worked and partied with most of the guys on the decal sheet. Those were crazy days. This was before Clark AB got buried under a pyroclastic flow, so we did a lot of Cope Thunder. I never did understand the fascination with that philipine Red Horse ale. We had a load crew chief who liked it so much he had horseshoes tattooed on his back. Now that's product loyalty!
