I am an Intel guy and heading to Pilot Training for an F-16 unit in the next year. I got the opportunity to attend a classified JSF Briefing. I also got to fly the Simulator! If any of you have questions, let me know...
There are tons of things that are UNCLASSIFIED that I have not seen on here that are absolutely amazing! Cheers! |

Okay then, would you by any chance know when the USAF might give the F-35 an official nickname (Assuming it actually receives one)?
I also have one more question, I have heard that the F-35 is supposed to be similar to the F-16C in terms of maneuverability, but I have my doughts that the F-35 is actually capable of doing this. So (If it isn't classified), can you please tell me which of the two do you think is actually more maneuverable at low and high speeds?
Thanks in advance |

| I too got some sim time and found it amazing and overwhelming. The task saturation training will be an important part of the initial academics. Jeez that thing has a bunch of info when heads down on the glass! |

As far as a nickname... None heard and it will get one.
I cannot comment on exact performance throughout the sub/transonic envelope but it is almost identical to the Blk 50. The Viper is tough to beat period... it will turn up its own a$$.
SA will be tough but when one gets used to the avionics package... its "doable"(sts). The JHMCS in the F-35 will make one very disoriented easy. It has an interface where you can look down at your lap and you see the ground below you... or at your deep six... you will see no jet... just a clean FOV. When you get into a turning fight with this system, it will be disorienting! |

I imagine it will be one of those things that takes getting used to but after than pilots will feel crippled without it. Like if you took radar, night vision, and GPS away from pilots today.
BTW I've got some questions. Will the F-35 be able to carry 600 gallon tanks and if so will they have shoulder-station rails like the F-15? Will they be able to carry the 5000lb PGMs on the inner hardpoints? (I know they're rated high enough but never heard anything about what they planned on putting there). Will it be able to go Mach 2? Have they thought about who is going to get F-35s first? As in where they might be stationed?
Actually I wouldn't mind if you just wrote an essay on everything you can tell that you haven't seen here |

| I would equate the DAS to being like a bird and I bet it will be a huge assest to have that true look down ability in your helmet. I found it amazing yep you could get lost but I think it will make you feel as if you are the a/c not just strapped to it. |

It will have MUCH larger onboard fuel caps. It can carry Ext. tanks depending on the mission ie:profile needs.
The JSF will carry everything that the current Viper will and then some. It also has some custom made weapons that will be incorpated into the RAMPTOR in later MMC upgrades.
M2? No
Looks like AD will get it around 2011 and Guard getting it around 2013. It will replace Blk 30s (Guard) and Blk 40s in AD... and then move into older Blk 50 units. |
