I just recieved an assignment to Cannon from Osan. I know the BRAC deal hasn't been signed yet, but I was wondering if anyone there had heard any rumors. Friends at Pope, and Eielson (both realignments I know) already are talking about tentative plans with dates in mind.

Thanks

I just read in the news that property owners near Cannon Air Force Base have agreed to sell land to enable the base to nearly double in size in an effort aimed at keeping the Pentagon from shutting it dow. The proposed land acquisitions, about 3,000 acres, would enable the Air Force expand Cannon without cost to itself.

This effort follows the commitment made during the BRAC hearing in Clovis, where it was stated that Cannon is not being threatened by encroachment.

Thanks for the info, I don't get there until January, so it will all be over by then, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see, thanks again

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...Clovis...

With Moody off the page as far as F-16 drops goes, I'd almost have to recommend you search for a swap to Shaw.

I tend to agree with you, on all counts, interesting to note though all the news I can find on this seems to be hopeful, but you can't find any news on Cannon outside of local Clovis stuff, 2 of the 9 BRAC commissioners have abstained from even voting, and they still need 5 to get Cannon off the list, like I mentioned in my original post other bases are pressing forward and have some sort of rough plan in place, Cannon seems to be in complete denial. I have been there TDY, and I didn't volunteer to go there, but still I hate the fact that of all places, a base closure would destroy the whole [Link pending approval] guess we'll just have to wait and see

Looks like they voted to keep Cannon, sort of. Still losing its aircraft.

Just an aside, but it looks like Ellsworth is going to stay open too.

I know what they are trying to do, It will be interesting to see how quickly they disband the aircraft now that they have until the end of 2009 to close the rest of the base, I don't know about everybody else, but I thought they took the easy way out, and avoided the hard decision.

I can only hope they close down the base before my tour in Korea is up or somehow I can find another assignment.

I was dissapointed that they apparently aren't going to close Moody. I thought it was a perfectly wretched, nasty, horrible, foul assignment. It was as if I went from the "cool" air force at Misawa, to the "what-the-hell-is-this?" air force at Moody.

I know how you feel unclemeat. I was a Misawa from 91-93 and should have extended there. Loved it. Then went to Luke and all the BS associated with AETC. The cutbacks then didn't help either as they were looking for any excuse to kick airmen out to get the cutbacks they wanted. My opinion only of course. I knew about 5-6 people then all given 39-10's.

Hello all,

The 523 FS will start to "give away" their Block-30 aircraft in about a year from now!! I have no current information related to the 522 FS and the 524 FS at the moment.

Greetings,

Henrik.
