Can someone explain the difference between the JDAM software suite, OFP & MAP. Are they all the same? Does the OFP tell the fin that you are for a MK-84 or a BLU-109 or does it have other information. And can i run a test on the CMBRE w/o the maintenance car, and if I can't will any PCMCIA card do? And if i've left something out, please fill me on.

The software suite is the OFP and MAP. Its all on the same card. The tail kit tells the CMBRE what kind of warhead it is for. A -556 fin is for a Mk 84 and the -557 fin is for the BLU-109. Why would you test a JDAM tail kit without the cards? It wouldn't work without the cards. Can't really get into detail on the CMBRE since it can test classified stuff, but I can tell you that the test set would not test the fin in that configuration.

The fin regardless of the which strake assemblies are used are identical. Hence, I can take a 556 and load 557 software and now I have tail for a 557. Only need to change out the strakes. My question was if I have an the CMBRE card and not the maintenance PCMCIA card can I still do the test? The maintenance card is there simply to hold the two folders that the CMBRE will generate.

Negative. the flight software in the two fins are not interchangable since they are programed to fly in two different positions. you may be thinking of the older first generation JDAM fins that had different types of software in them, but the fins even then were not interchangable. if you swap fins, you get erratic flight characteristics. It goes into the warheads having different ballistic properties. As far as running the test set, I guess you could test the fin out with the maintenance log installed, but i don't see the point.
