So does the 27th at Langley now have 7 or 9? (I've been out of the loop for a while)

The 27th FS used two Tyndall Raptors for a while, before their own were delivered. I believe 4029 was one of them (would be interested in the other one).
Have these already returned, or are they still in use at Langley? |

The word "Silver bullet" springs to mind seeing these pictures. How come they are so shiny? Must make it easy to visually pick them up in the glare of the sun.

Anyone ever see the Indian (dot, not feathers) princes elephants? they are big white elephants with a gold headpiece, and when you see the raptors flying around in formation, they look like a herd of these elephants. The F/A-22 is a HUGE airplane... s

We took off after some Raptors this last week before Hurricane Ophelia and their visual signature is DAMNED hard to pick up, even in sunny skies. In addition, the pictures taken of Raptors where the sun shines off is purely for cinematic value, their paint scheme is hard to pick up on the most sunny days. As for numbers, there are 8 operational Raptors with 1 maintenance F/A-22 used for training and cannibalization purposes. There is supposed to be 2 Raptors coming in every month with the 27th FS being fully operational (aircraft wise) by April '06 and there already plans to get rid of the 94th FS -15s, several to Kadena and a few to Nellis as that will be the next F/A-22 squadron followed by the 71st. The Air Force "projects" a full F/A-22 base by summer of 2008 but that looks hazy at best. But I will say one thing, they make a pretty sexy roar when they takeoff.

These pics don’t look right on my monitor; they are stretched in Y (and/or compressed in X) making the aircraft look short and fat. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, the picture does look short and fat, but the Raptor IS short and fat.
