Airplane pilot NH-2181-III

Salary: $61,741.00 - $95,445.00 per annum
Location: 418 FLTS/DOO, Marietta City, GA
Type of appointment: One Term Appointment not to exceed 4 Years .

Major duties:
Performs duties for both in flight and ground instruction for post-Test Pilot School training in accordance with AFMC approved training plans. Secures weather information prior to flight, studies proposed route of flight and fuel requirements, estimates flying time and files flight plans. Verifies aircraft is ready for flight and performs flight checks. Ensures that passengers or crew are briefed on the nature and purpose of the flight, as well as procedures to follow in an emergency. Obtains clearances prior to flight.

Complies with all laws, regulatory requirements and directives applicable to the conduct of flight. Supports flight operations by acting as squadron Training Officer and/or Scheduling and/or Safety Officer and/or Stan/Eval Officer and/or Assistant Operations Officer as required. Performs duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and Operations Duty Officer (ODO). May be called upon to act as Squadron Top 3 as required. Develops plans and policies relating to test conduct, monitors test operations and advises government agencies and contractors. Plans and conducts flight test activities.

Formulates test procedures and conducts tests to evaluate structural integrity, performance, handling characteristics, reliability and suitability of aircraft and systems. Identifies design and operational deficiencies and recommends improvements. Prepares written technical reports, oral briefings and recommendations for design improvements for use by government agencies and contractors developing aircraft systems. Complies with all laws, regulations and directives applicable to the conduct of flight test. Pilots aircraft under conditions ranging from normal operations to those of significant risk and hazard. Manages research, test and evaluation projects and programs. Works with program managers, engineers, aircrew members, maintenance crews and contractors to plan and identify test objectives, test points, test procedures, safety considerations, risks and hazards, as well as factors and actions to mitigate risks and hazards. Integrates test objectives, organizes and directs test activities and supervises flight operations. Maintains flight logs and aircraft condition reports; briefs flight test results. Prepares and presents written reports and/or oral briefings.

Minimum eligibility requirements:

Minimum eligibility requirements for this position is based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position.

Certificates and ratings:

For all grade levels and specializations, candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the intent of the requirement. The FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required. The pilot certificate must include the rating(s) appropriate to the work of the position to be filled.

Note: Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as a rated military pilot, flight instructor, or flight examiner, as appropriate. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable.

Flight experience:

Candidates must demonstrate possession of the knowledge and skills required for the work by meeting certain minimum flight hour requirements, including recency of flight experience. The categories in which candidates are required to demonstrate proficiency relate to (1) the general knowledge and skills to pilot the aircraft, and (2) the specific knowledge and skills related to the particular position being filled. Only that flight experience that is directly related to the work of the position is required for purposes of establishing minimum eligibility.

Minimum flight hour requirements:

The following flight hour requirements apply to all applicants:
  • Total Flight Time: 2000 Flight Hours (Flight time as pilot-in-command or copilot in aircraft of any weight or category is credible for this requirement.)
  • Pilot-In-Command: 1000 Flight Hours (Only flight hours acquired as
    pilot-in-command are creditable.)
  • Night Flying: 75 Fight Hours
  • Flying Time, last 12 Months: 100 Flight Hours
  • Instrument: 50 Hours
