I just heard about the passing of Admiral Stockdale. Very sad to hear. You know, in this day and age, the word 'Hero' is probably one of the most over-used or misused words in the English language. I think that before someone can use the word hero to praise the accomplishments of an individual, they should first be required to read James Stockdale's Congressional Medal of Honor citation. He helped his fellow POWs prove to Charlie that Americans don't just roll over and take it quietly, and that you can only push us around just so much. I will be eternally grateful for what he did.
When you drink one this weekend, remember to raise your glass for a man who truly epitomized the word 'Hero'.
Out of respect for such a great man, I will refrain from my common closing line. Instead, I will simply say, Rest in Peace Admiral Stockdale. |
