I've heard that new SAM's are being developed who's guidance system can "see" stealth aircraft making stealth capabilities in jets like the Raptor obsolete. I don't know if its true. Could anyone fill me in?

To quote a Boeing representative as I have before: "The F/A-22 can safely approach an S-300 type defense system to within 13 nautical miles."

Of course countries will try to develop these kinds of SAM's but will they work and how far off into the future will they actually be used.

I think our stealth will work well into the future.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone seen or read this article/documentation that asserts that:

Quote:
...the KGB stealing the U.S. Patriot anti-missile technology on which the Soviets based their modern version, the S-300...

The Attack on America’s Intellectual Property - Espionage after the Cold War

As for this new SAM, would that not be the S-400?

While I am not doubting the Russians anti-air capabilities, the Russians do have a tendency to over-hype/exaggerate numbers and capabilities of hardware. Remember the claims of those bolt-on plasma stealth kits? Wink

Anyhow, IMHO, I believe that by the time that these SAMs detect a Raptor, it will virtually too late; they will have already been targeted for destruction.

Russia declared that its S-400 system can detect and attack the stealthy target 90 km away. However, it gave no definition for the stealthy target when it made such a declaration.

But even its "stealthy target" is the target with the tiny RCS that are equal to F/A-22, the most stealthy one in the stealthy airplanes that have been existed in the world up to now, there are still ways for F/A-22 to conquer it ~ both LM and Boeing have begun to design and deverlop the mini-curise missiles which can be taken 2 to 6 missiles by F/A-22 internally with the range of 250~600 km (such as SMACH) to even 1,850 km+ (A revision of JASSM-XR). The manufacurerer declared that if there is necessity, these new mini-curise missiles could be ready to get into service after 2008.

Boys... The SA-10,12 and 20 have all capabilities that the Russians say... and then some. Keep in mind boys, they want you think they have these ranges so you'll fly your a$$ up there thinking that. If they dont see you totally but slightly... they have azimuth fixes on you... the will then go optical. "Think outside the box." Stealth is good but can be beat.

In history, Russian technology has been somewhat overhyped in my opinion. For example, consider the MiG-25. It was the most feared fighter during the middle of the Cold War. It prompted the creation of the F-15. However, when a Soviet pilot defected and we got our hands on the MiG-25, we found out it wasn't what it was hyped to be. That said, I have to agree that it's always good to consider what's advertised and work with that, because it's better to be overprepared in war than underprepared. By the way, optical systems are only good for short range. There's a lot of distortion in the air.

Hi fella`s. New to the forum so I have to get the hang of things...

I will try to find the link, heard rumour of an Australian radar that is so sensitive, it can detect the air turbulance created by an aircraft????? Now this tells me if that is the case, it will not be able to classify the object type, missile or plane? Detection range may well be a BIG issue too. It will however be able to tell you that something is THERE.

Sorry if that is pure rumour, will post the link when I "re-find " it.

By the way, this is a great forum guys, nice friendly atmosphere!!!!! Viper all the way!

I can't go into what the Raptor's RCS capabilities or jamming capabilities are, but I will say that a SAM radar trying to find a Raptor is virtually the equivalent of watching scrambled porn.

The Russians have nothing that can stop it. Their disinformation causes undue panic, but we end up learning the truth about their equipment and capabilities later.

They can tell you they have a stealth defeating radar. They can also tell you that Britney Spears started the Chicago Fire but that doesn't necessarily make it so.

This is just some internet rumor started by some geeky, pale, four-eyed, pencil necked, pimple faced, high school, hacker jerkoff, whose only dream in life is for his blow up doll to come to life and have a wild time with him. Don't read too much into it. Rolling Eyes

Oh yeah, and I definitely don't mean that as a reflection on you Raptorman. I'm just talking about some of the morons you see on internet blog sites. Wink

LMAO Scrambled porn...it's like a Live Action Picasso. Wink It's basically what these new SAM radars will be seeing in this situation...if they even survive the first wave of Wild Weasels. Very Happy

Doubt they will.
