I have received a couple of tailnumber reports from Luke AFB this year, but none of them showed any 310th FS aircraft. It looks like most of their inventory went to the 308th FS.

Anybody any idea of what is going on?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Sulfer,

Thanks for your reply.

I thought of this.

Normally when a unit goes CCIP they have a limited number of aircraft available as they are at Ogden. But the majority returns to the same unit.

What I see now is that at least ten Vipers have switched units, they went from 310 to 308.

I guess I just have to be patient and wait till CCIP is completed at Luke.

The 310th doesn't have a B-course and therefore has a lower requirement for jets on the ramp at any given time. It was therefore decided that they would be the "transfer unit" to ship jets to Ogden and receive them back after the mod. They sent their original jets up a couple years ago, and once they were modded, they did a mass swap with the 308th. (I was lead in the Knights at the time, and this was a major pain in the butt, as you might imagine.)

Once all the 308th's previous jets are modded, the 310th will receive them back and do another swap with the 63rd. These tails will be the 63rd's "permanent" jets and once all the jets are back from Depot, the 310th will then keep the 63rd's old jets until someone decides to shuffle them around again.

To make a little more sense:

Old unit---New unit
310th-------308th
63rd--------310th
308th-------63rd

There was some discussion when I was still there of reassigning 056 back to the 63rd after all the modding so they would keep the wing jet with the obvious tail number.

But I've been retired for six months so all these plans may very well have changed since I left.
