Hi guys,

I was wondering if there was already some news about the Raptors new demo season.
Last year they said that they would fly a restricted "sneak peak" demonstration in 2007. This proved to be a nice demo with some great new manouvres for the american public. But last year they also said that they would fly a new demo in 2008 which is supposed to look a lot like the European fighter demo's from over here.

Are there already some rumours about this new demo or the demo dates?

I'm really looking forward to see the F-22 in the UK this summer at RIAT08!

Greetings
Rick

The demo should look a lot like what you saw in 2007. The dates are not public yet and RIAT is only a rumor...much like it was last year. There would be no reason at all to take the jet out of North America.

Hey...I'm all for taking it over there so ya'll can see it with your own MK1's! To deploy them there would take a big effort, take major training time away from other pilots and would serve no purpose other than to show them off. Keep your fingers crossed...the schedule is already done....

Guess so, but it still sucks! The F-22 is definitely on my "to see" list.

I don't mean to make others envious but I saw the Raptor twice at the Toronto International Airshow in 2007. Its routine didn't look very restricted to my novice eyes! It did a couple of those Russian circle thingys (like cobras, but coming all the way around) and a couple of helicoperty moves. I was astounded by its apparent sheer power. While the -16s, and 18s were doing a lot of zoom climbs, the -22 would just come onto stage at relatively low speed, point its nose up and just climb on raw thrust. I'm sure it wasn't heavily loaded (the weapons bays were empty at least) but still very impressive.

As far as I know the F-22 is coming to the UK in 2008; it will not deploy to shows and will operate from Lakenheath giving air displays only.

It is primarily coming over to display at Farnborough but it is also displaying at RIAT among others Wink

If you enjoyed last year's demo, all indications point that this years demo profile will be even better.

Haven't heard this but what I would like to see is the F-22 deploy to somewhere like Lakenheath like they did for 3 months to Japan. Like the "goal" of that deployment, it would serve to showcase certain next generation capabilities to local combatant commanders and what the F-22 can bring to the fight. This would, of course, include showing how the F-22s would integrate with USAFE and allied assets such as Typhoons, Tornandos, Harriers, Gripens, foreign Hornets and Tigers, etc and how the Raptor can make them even more effective.

For those of you who are thinking it...no, it wouldn't be an "F-22 vs whatever" thing (although I've no doubt somebody would want the opportunity for a DACT session), but rather how well everybody will work together against specific assets acting as Red Air.

Ah, I deserved it! I stood out in the cold rain for 2 hours the year before when the -22 was scheduled but didn't show due to rain!

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked C'mon! Spill!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked It's hard to imagine what ELSE they could do! The Toronto International Airshow takes place just over Lake Ontario but the planes turn back to the performance area right over the city. It's odd, for a couple of days of the year (practice and show) you hear -15s, -16s, -18s, the -22 flying right over the business district with all the high banking towers.

The one thing that did seem a little limited was speed. Due to the proximity of property, I'm sure supersonic flight would be prohibited but the -22 did seem significantly slower compared with the Gen4 planes which did a lot of high-speed passes and zoom climbs. It didn't bug me one bit - to me, the show is in the low-speed, high alpha and post-stall areas!

That's actually one of the things that I liked about the Raptor's demo. Realistically almost any combat aircraft built after the mid-50's can do basically the same high subsonic speed passes and climbouts. How much difference is there between a M.95 pass in an F-104, or an F-22? The Raptor demo shows us something new.

From the horses mouth (Max)...

"Our 2008 Schedule is about 2 weeks from getting finalized. As soon as it has been signed off on and coordinated up the chain we'll release it.
ANY shows that say we are supporting them right now are merely speculating (except maybe Langley).

As soon as we know, you'll know!

All I can say is that we are going to more and different locations this year..."

I would read that as no news is still good news...not to mention 'more' locations....
