F-16.net

Anybody knows how many teams fly the F-16s?

I know of only two:

1) Thunderbirds (USAF)
2) Black Knights (RSAF)

Would be great to know won't it?

Indonesia formed a team called Elang Biru (Blue Falcons) in 1996 but they have since disbanded. The Indonesian team was trained by former USAF Thunderbirds instructors.

USAF also has an East Coast and a West Coast demonstration team that they send to airshows, one flies an aerobatic routine while the other is parked on the static line as a spare/backup.

Doesn't the Netherlands have one too?

Well, Korean acrobatic team currently uses A37. I know.. it's old but they do incredible job with it....

Anyway... there is a rumor that they are going to substitute A37 with A50, which is made by Korea Aerospace Industry and Lockheed. A50 basically looks like F-16 with F18C air intake, so A50 must have simlilar flight characteristic......(A50 has blended wing body, etc just like F-16s)

The Netherlands do not have an F-16 team - every year they paint one of their F-16s in special colors for the show season, just as the Belgian AF does.

PACAF also has a Demonstration Team, similar to those in the CONUS. The East Coast team is out of Shaw, the West Coast team is from Hill and the PACAF team is out of Misawa Japan.

MrFalconFixer, do you know how they decide which (east/west coast) team goes to which air shows? And do they have published schedules? I saw the Hill team at Scott AFB this summer, just east of the Mississippi River.

The terms "East Coast" and "West Coast" don't really apply to where the jets are sent to airshows, rather, where they are stationed. I've seen the Hill team fly at Tyndall, NAS Pensacola, and a couple other spots in the east, just as the Shaw team will also do shows out west, or wherever else they may be scheduled. As far as ACC goes, their demo teams are as follows:

F-16: Shaw and Hill
F-15: Eglin and Langley
F-117: Holloman
A-10: Pope and Davis Monthan
B-1: Dyess
B-52: Minot (but sometimes Barksdale will do flyovers. Once again, availability, and ACC & USAF's scheduling are the real determining factors)
B-2: Whiteman (just like Holloman for the 117, they are the only operational ACC units for their respective aircraft)
As of yet, there is no F/A-22 demo unit, although you should see one within the next 4 years or so. Tyndall, an AETC unit (Air ETCetera BARF!! RALPH!! HURL!!) will begin to do flyovers within the coming year, but I have heard nothing concerning a Raptor demo team.

BTW, concerning the BUFF, I haven't seen an actual "demo flight" from the B-52, since that cowboy augered in at Fairchild back in 94. I've only seen the BUFF do flyovers and sometimes an "unofficial" heritage flight with a B-17 and B-1.

Only had 1400 hours in that little beast, 400 hours of which were combat.

AETC "Ain't Even Thinking Combat." Good one Rampage! Never heard that one, but I have heard "Allergic Excessively To Combat." That was a play off of when AETC was simply known as ATC (Air Training Command) or "Allergic To Combat," or "American Toy Company."

Yeah, it sucked when Tyndall switched from ACC to AETC (Thanks a LOT Gen. McPeak!!!) Tyndall had two different command changes within about a 2 or 3 year span, and 3 over about a 14 year span. First ADCOM to TAC, then TAC to ACC, then ACC to the worst command on the face of God's Green Earth!!! Any questions?

Didn't know about an F/A-22 demo already being flown. Thanks for that update JR007. Although if you saw one at Edwards, it was quite possibly a pilot from Edwards flying it. Like I said, I don't believe an official ACC demo team has stood up yet, seeing as Tyndall is the only current operational unit for the Raptor, and will be for awhile longer.
