I know some of you have made videos on your home PC, and perhaps have converted VHS/8MM tapes to play in your DVD players. I am currently looking for a recommended video caputure card/device. It can be USB or internal. Any recommendations? I would like to convert my F-16 flight HUD tape to DVD and MPEG or AVI formats.

I know, I know, I am checking on sites like CNET for recommendations as well.

Thanks,

Loader

Loader, I've never done any video xfers, but this might help:

http://dvguide.sharbor.com/head-to-head/

They have a forum too, with a "getting started" section:

I have a Pinnacle PCTV Pro... it works great for me, as long as you don't lose the CD - if you do, you're faced with a huge 55MB driver/app download!

Can't say much for its built-in tuner, though. All channels pick up ambient static from the computer, but you can still see (and enjoy, if your tolerance level is high) the image. Composite and S-Video-in lines are completely clean and crisp, though. TV only transmits at 320x240 (by the TV transmission standards), but it has a very good resizing filter to get it up to 640x480 with no problem.

It's PCI, and it has plugs for either an internal or external audio bridge line. Got it for $50 at CompUSA.

I bought an ADS DVD Xpress and have been relatively happy with it. It has an MPEG2 encoder in it and uses USB2.0 (I use it ion low speed most of the time and it works well.) It has had some minor problems but overall it works. Contact me for info on that if you want. It does DVD 720x520ish in real time. the WMV of the Phantom Mishap is one I did with it from one of my old video tapes. I converted it from MPEG to WMV for space reasons. The MPEG has higher quality.
