Random question: Anybody know how many hours the raptor has logged to this date? I don't know if that information is avalible to the public, but im just curious.
Also, has it been hard for F-15 pilots trainning to fly the F/A-22 to get a lot of time in, due to the low amount of aircraft? Or Do pilots "commit" time to only flying the Raptor? Which bases are the F/A-22 at? (I only know of Langely, Nellis, Tyndall, and maybe still at Edwards?)And i think they are heading to Alaska sometime in the future(Elmendorf maybe?)
This is just one of the many random questions that comes from my curiousity, which i post on this forum
Thanks for your time. |

| Im not sure what the total time was, but mid 2004 we hit 5000 hours. Jets are at Langley, Nellis, Tyndall, and Edwards. They will go to Elmendorf in 2008. The pilots dont have much of a problem getting flight time. They have a lot of sim time before they actually get to fly, so that gives a bit of time to catch up on aircraft delivery. Each of the 4 bases have enough aircraft that the qualified pilots have no problem getting sorties in. |

Good post Calhoun, it's good to hear that the Raptor jocks are paving the way for the future. The sortie generation levels are definately not as high in other squadrons/units with other aircraft as what's happening with the Raptor.
You mentioned sim time, the pilot's are basically learning from themselves; this a good learning tool, like CBT in any discipline. This is why I really admire the mutli-engine/single cockpit aircraft. All of them, it teaches you to teach yourself, which is the best way of learning through experience and academics.
Calhoun, if can you post a general idea (time frame) how many hours between sim time and solo? |

At one time, there were a number of guys who were "dual qualed" in both the F-15 and F-22. There are very few of them around anymore, outside the test community.

That may be the official AF position, but it's not reality. Let's just say that not all of the bugs have been worked out yet - but it's getting a lot better. |

| Will Tyndall be the AETC's spot to train new Raptor Drivers? (makes sense logically, right?) |

Yes - Tyndall got the training mission. Already doing it. |

| I believe its somewhere around 12 sim flights before they get to go up. I may be wrong, but i thought thats what they said when I was TDY to Tyndall. |
