OK, any takers? MiG-23 ready for sale in Poland!

No, it's not mine and I don't know the seller! Actually, I'm questioning the wisdom of such a purchase. Talk about expensive! Swing wing - how bad is the maintenance on that??? Gas? Maintenance? SPARE PARTS???

Basically, would anyone around here actually buy this thing if they had the money? The only reason I'd buy it would be for a museum for reasons above among others. What do you guys think?

Please post your answers along with your vote. Thanks Very Happy !

Yeah, I'd go for the museum piece, and nothing more. Maintenance would be hard and pricey. I couldn't imagine how many maintenance hours you would have per flight hour, but it's a bunch.

Beers and (yep you guessed it Wink) were made to be pounded!

There is an interesting story behind the Mig-23 in the USAF museum at Wright Patt. I just heard it from a friend (and officer at WP) of mine. He said apparantly a wealthy doctor in Dayton purchased it for fun from an overseas auction. When it arrived in the United States the fire control system was still active and the guns on it were still in tact. The Mig-23 was confiscated and refurbished for the museum. The doctor was arrested and sent to jail; charged with arms smuggling.

I read that when German air force retired its MiG-29 Fulcrum. This air force sold the Fulcrum by one Euro (like one dollar) to Poland. So I could by unless 20 fighters. Very Happy

Man, I can't believe it another aircraft! Shocked I still remember when someone was trying to sell an F/A-18 and some Mig-29s, this is incredible. I wonder what the reserve is set at, after all the Mig is already gone up to 9,299 USD. I wish I had the money Sad , even though its not an F-16, its still very cool.

Lol I'd buy it, put it in my backyard and then have a barbeque. Very Happy Imagine the looks you would get when you go around the back and oh my god theres a MiG 23 sitting there. Actually my friends probably wouldn't be surprised but I'm sure the neighbours would. Laughing hehehe....

I would buy it, get the A-4 from the Christchurch air force museum and the MIg21 from the musuem in Wanaka and try and make air combat capability with them.

Nobody would tell you this prior to selling it but you have to wash your hands every time after you touch it. They used a paint that was very high in elemental lead. There are also all sorts of other heavy metals used on that era of Soviet jets. You have to remember they didn't worry too much about their peoples health. Remember the old Russian joke? How do you know a sailor is assigned to nuclear subs? He's the one that glows in the dark.
