| Anyone has any info on a Russian SSM, that goes by the codename Sunburn? It's deemed to be unstoppable by shipborne defensive systems and I just wanted to find out more about it. Thanks a bunch. |

SSN-22 Missile, there are actually 3 versions in service with the Russian Fleet.
P-80 "Zubr" - destroyer deployed ASM
P-100 "Oniks" - Same Missile as the P-80 encapsulated to be launched out of 65 CM torpedo tubes primarily carried by OSCAR II and AKULA class Subs.
P-270 "Moskit" Aircraft delevered variant of the Missile, carried Exclusively by the Navelized SU-3X series as a primary Ship strike weapon.
Speed: Mach 3
Attack Altitude:20 Meters
Guidence: Active Radar
Range: 250 KM, comparaible to the French Exocet
Warhead Weight: 320 KG
Total Weight: 4500 KG
Best Way to knock this missile down is to destroy it before its launched. The Theoretical Max. Responce Time for the Targeted Vessel is 25 to 30 Seconds. In otherwords, little to none. The only defence system on the planet that stands a chance is the Aegis, and thats still a fair game. |

Sorry, Lawman, but actually the range of an Exocet is inferior, about 80 km.
The Sunburn was clearly designed to destroy the most-defended big warships, aircraft carriers and AEGIS cruisers. The characteristics of the missile are impressive indeed!
I also have very worrying information about the Sunburn: Iran got some land-based ones, on the Gulf coast. Hope they will never think about using them, cuz I'm not sure, like Lawman, that anything could stop it in the 'real world". |
