Yes and no....
While you can put a model jet engine in there, most people can't afford that, so they put a dicted fan in there. A ducted fan runs off of a regular 1-cylinder piston model engine, only instead of a propeller, it has a fan attached. Kinda works like a high-bypass turbofan in essence. The egine is mounted internally, so you don't see it, or the fan. |

Hello, my name is Michel Avonds, I am the guy on one of the pictures posted above. The Belgian Air Force model is mine.
Habu is right about the engines, my F-16 has first flown with Ducted Fan power (3.5 kg thrust with a T/O weight of almost 8kg). Now it is powered by that RAM 750 turbine which gives 8.5 kg thrust (I estimate), T/O weight is 11 kg, empty weight is 9 kg, 3 liters of kerosine gives about 9 min flight plus some reserve. |
