Great idea !!! If you look at the guys getting 'em first, A-10, AC-130, MC-130, you see a common trend. These guys are down in the dirt, low level, at night. They need all the periphoral vision they can get! |

Very true parrothead, I'm glad they're getting a more capable system. They wont win any beauty contests though lol. (Not that that's the point) When I first saw "panoramic" I thought it would be a visor-like system, kind of like JHMCS, then I saw scooter there with four eyes. WHOA!!! So much for that thought lol. They better be careful turning thier heads in close quarters... . Ubisoft ought to give Sam Fisher a pair of those for the next Splinter Cell game. |

| There are four optical tubes. Is this just for peripheral vision, or are there two "instruments"? |

| Never mind, it is for peripheral vision. From the pic it sort of looks as if the pilot is looking through the two outer tubes. |

| I tried them, they are awesome, it reduces your side scan head movement big time, it's like looking at a screen instead of through a straw. One bad thing is that after about an hour your neck starts hurting bad because they are much heavier. |

It definately looks as though we have made giant strides in NVG technology. I applaued those NVG engineers and testors', and evaluators' who have made a mark in the future reduction of NVG mishap potential for the future.
Depth Perception - does anyone know how this has changed?
Obviously, peripheral vision has improved, this was necessary, good deal. |

Depth perception has not changed. DP is created by the brain detecting the slight variation in angular location betweeen two eyes. Since the eyes now focue on the goggles and not at a distance, there is no angular difference...everthing appears to be at infinity.
You get used to it though but it's like driving a car with one eye closed. |

| Roscoe, you're like the Encyclopedia Brittanica; a wealth of information. Thank you for the data on DP. And your absolutely right on your senses of NVGs'. I've tested them once, it was strange, I was in the sim. |
