Dear visitors,

We've received quite a few replies to our request for help - much more than we expected - so thanks for that everybody. (We even still need to reply to some of you.)

It's perhaps a good idea to explain what exactly we're looking for.

Currently, the site offers the following content:
  • News
  • Articles, includes articles covering Versions, Users, Armament, Units
  • Photo Gallery
  • Patch Gallery
  • Interviews
  • Forum
  • Serials DB
  • Pilot DB
  • Glossary
  • Other (humor, stories, book reviews, ....)
We look for help on two aspects:
  1. help with EXISTING content
  2. provide NEW content.
<ol><li><b>Existing content</b>
We are especially looking for:
<ul><li><i>news editors or correspondents</i>: people that keep an eye on local F-16 news and post it on the site. Lieven is doing most of the news currently.
<li><i>patches & photo's</i>: we're always looking for patches and photo's, so if you have any interesting material just add it to the galleries (please respect the copyright though !). Bjorn and myself are currently managing the photo gallery (with a lot of additions and corrections from habu2, thanks!), while Jon Somerville is managing the Patch Gallery (also with lots of input from our visitors)</ul>
<li><b>New content</b>
Since we currently have our hands full just managing the site and keeping it updated, we don't have much time to add new content. that's why we are really looking for <b>Guest Editors</b>.

A Guest Editor (according to our own definition Smile ) is someone who has good knowledge of a particular F-16 related topic and is willing to write a short article about that topic.

We have some really good ideas for new content, however we lack the time (and knowledge sometimes) to write the articles ourselves. Some of our ideas and plans include coverage of:
<ul>
<li><i>F-16 Structure</I>
<li><i>F-16 Avionics</I>
<li><i>F-16 Ground Ops</I>: should be pretty popular given the crowd here Wink
<li><i>F-16 Mission Profiles</I>
<li><i>F-16 operational service</I> (deployments, conflicts)
<li><i>Unit histories</i>
<li><i>...</i>
</ul>
We're not looking for someone who can do it all of course - just looking for people that know a subject well enough and have time to write an article about it. If a Guest Editor provides us with the text, we'll do the layout, add photos, and publish it on the site, so no worries about that.

Also, we're not trying to write the definitive article on a topic - we mainly want to provide a solid basis for discussion (otherwise you guys wouldn't have anything left to talk about in the forum Wink ). Once an article is published on the site, we update it with comments from the "Errors and Ommissions" and from forum posts. And of course, we're only looking for non-classified info !

What would be good examples of articles a Guest Editor could write ?
<ul>
<li>For example, we recently received an article about the JDAM from ELP (thanks elp !) - it will be published on the site in the near future.
<li>Other examples: an article about (part of) the structure, e.g. wings, landing gear, ...
<li>A particular mission profile
<li>A particular deployment
<li>History of a particular F-16 unit
</ul></ol>I realize we have a lot of ideas, and what I described here is an insane amount of work - but eventually we'll get there ! Smile We certainly won't do anything at once but based on the replies on our call for help we'll pick a new section to start with.

Currently, we're updating the Armament section - we're still working on the graphics, but we hope to get it online in the next few weeks. It will include updates on the existing articles, as well as coverage of most of the missing weapons.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone

Bjorn, Lieven & Stefaan

As a regular viewer, I would also add that ( seriously ) this site has such good content already, that, sometimes, it must be a challange to find ways to improve it. IMO a good portion of the regulars here have some great knowledge. If any of us regulars see an interesting piece of new F-16 info, just forward it to the staff here, and things should run smoothly.

I'm sorry for the late reply - been pretty busy with the site lately, we've done a major technical upgrade on Saturday, and we're also working on the versions, users, and armament sections. Expect a major update in the near future !

Anyway, here goes:

DeepSpace, by mission profiles we mean a general description of typical F-16 missions. For example, a typical CAS, SEAD, or air defense mission.

Of course we're not looking for the classified stuff, just general info. eg:

  • typical weapon loadouts for a particular mission
  • who's involved (e.g. AWACS, FAC)
  • sequence of events

I started thinking about this in the light of another forum discussion covering the blue-on-blue incident involving USAF F-16s and Canadian ground troops (<a href="f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-205-highlight-afghanistan.html">this topic</a>). There's a post by Elp offering some insight on how this ground attack proceeded, which is quite interesting. Perhaps it's too difficult to find this info, but I was just throwing out a line Smile

Habu, We'd definitely like to offer more useful info to scale modelers. Do you have any concrete suggestions - if so we can try to accomodate you. Of course, there's already a bunch of excellent sites out there (Habu2's for example), and there's no use in trying to do it better Wink.

We'd like to focus on F-16 info which is also useful for modelers, rather than pure modeler's info. (E.g. info about F-16 color schemes or F-16 structure would be perfect, scans of kit instruction manuals less so).

If you want we can continue this discussion offline (you know how to reach me) but if other persons have any suggestions please let us know !

Hey people.

Give me a topic concerning F-16 Avionics (Only the stuff in current use on B50/52) and I'll write about it, as much or as little as you'd like.

Dave

Cool. What I would like to know is:
  • What are your favorite systems to work on and why? (and/or which systems are the most trouble free).

  • What are your least favorite systems to work on and why? (and/or which systems demand the most of your time because of some special situation)
